Texas A&M @ South Carolina
Sunday, October 19, 5pm
TV: SEC+

Well, the Aggies found multiple goals in a match for the first time since August. But they're going to need to do more to challenge a top ten South Carolina on their home field.

SC is 10-2-4 on the season overall with a 4-1-3 mark in conference play. The Gamecocks have outscored opponents 30-10 on the season.

Let's compare common opponents:
Oklahoma: Aggies T 0-0; SC W 2-0
Arkansas: Aggies L 0-1; SC T 2-2
Auburn: Aggies L 0-1; SC T 1-1
Texas: Aggies W 1-0; SC W 5-1

I'll add that their conference loss was to Kentucky by a score of 2-3. The Aggies have Kentucky up next on their schedule.

We have been overdue for an upset for a long time but time is quickly running out to do it this season.

C'mon, Ags, do it tonight !!!

Their top player, and the top goal scorer in the SEC, is out today. So, there's that.

21 plus change in the 1st half.
We just picked up a yellow. 14 Patterson
They have had 1 shot.
We've had opportunities but lacking on finish.

I just realized what a dumb request that was. If I can post on TA, I can watch the game on my laptop. Sucks getting old. I have it playing.

That non-contact injury on the SC player looks bad.

Nevermind, she's cool. Maybe a bit dramatic response on her part.

Yeh, until she got up and seemed just fine. But the replay looked gross.

They didn't have a lot of opportunities on goal, which is good. D played well. We still need finishing.

Good draw with a tough team.

Welll, we did not get the upset I have been wanting BUT a draw, and one point, vs SC is a good outcome at this point. SOOO, I will call it an 'upset lite' !!

Good job, Ags !!!

If the team had played all of the other games with this much effort, I don't believe they would be the 13th team in the SEC. South Carolina was pushed to their limit and they know it.

Thinking the exact thing. I'll take the draw. They played how they should play every game.

Does anyone know what the tiebreak would be if we end with 11 points and so does Florida?

A couple of thoughts.

Impressive game for Hayden Wilson and Bella James. Wilson has been out all year until playing 20 minutes last game (after Lavender got hurt, after Scranton got hurt) and played the full game tonight. James was the one who had to get the stitches in her head last game, came back with it taped up tonight and played tough for the full game.

I actually thought this game was the same as nearly every game this year in that the girls played with amazing effort and great defense, but we just can't score goals. The only two games we got whipped were Georgia and LSU (and we outshot Georgia). Tied Baylor, Oklahoma and South Carolina (all top 40 teams). Lost by 1 goal to TCU, Arkansas, and Tennessee (all top 20 teams). That 0-1 loss to Auburn with the late goal is likely to cost us a chance to go to SEC playoffs. But really the LSU game is the only game I would've questioned the effort of this team.

On the tiebreakers, I believe we need to hope that somehow Missouri can get a point against Auburn and we beat Kentucky.

I think we are in bad shape on a 3 way tie breaker with Florida and Auburn because goal differential comes into play against common opponents and those just happen to be our worst two losses by goal differential) - Georgia and LSU.

Regardless of anyone's thoughts on G, I would like to say that this year's team is one of the most high integrity (perhaps there is a better word) that I've seen here in years. They are fighters. They dealt with adversity and didn't quit and have laid a great foundation of how we should play and fight into the future. Gig'em Ladies!

Here we go again. The low-performance standard of praising competitors because they "don't quit." That isn't why competitive athletic programs exist, especially programs that come with financial rewards to players for just being on the team.

It's great that this team battled. They are financially rewarded for simply being on the team--getting all kinds of benefits and scholarships. So, yeah, I expect that every last one of them won't quit, just like I expect every paid employee in my company to not quit on any project. If you want to quit your job and give up the financial reward, fine. But if you're on the company/team and you are accepting the rewards, then not quitting is a baseline, not an admirable performance. Praising any competitive athlete, especially a financially rewarded one, for not quitting is just not an acceptable performance standard.

The result today was definitely praiseworthy. South Carolina is a good team, and holding them goal-less in their home stadium is a terrific defensive accomplishment. This year's team has definitely grown. It's not their fault that they all had to start from a completely torn down and rebuilt roster. They've improved, for sure, and deserve some good praise for a nice result today. If they can somehow get into the SEC tournament, perhaps they'll keep improving and make some noise. Here's hoping. Keep working and some opportunities for good things will come.

if Mizzou beats Auburn we just need a tie
if Mizzou ties Auburn we have to win

Two-Team Ties
For teams tied in points:
Head-to-head competition: The team with the better record (or more points) against the other tied team.
Points earned vs. common opponents: The team with more points against shared opponents.
Goal differential vs. common opponents: The team with the better goal differential against shared opponents.
Goals scored vs. common opponents: The team with more goals scored against shared opponents.

so yeah we are out vs Florida if tied
and our vs Auburn if tied

Nice effort today for sure. A tie on the road against SC is a good result. Just don't have the last touch around the box to score goals. It's been a problem for years now under Coach G. The defense has been excellent all year so that is to be commended.

The bottom line is that we have to win next week against a good Kentucky team and get some help from Missouri on the road at Auburn. If Auburn wins their game as expected, there's nothing we can do and the season is over. I do expect next week's game to be G's last at Ellis Field.

There's a reason this last game is televised. I've been very vocal about firing G the past two seasons. However next Sunday should be a thank you and celebration. Yeah the ending was ugly, losing seasons and excuses became the norm, but the man deserves credit for building this program and creating a standard that ultimately led to his downfall.

He turned this school and this place into a soccer environment that is the standard. We have the facilities, we have the support. We can go get any big name we want and the talent will follow. Attendance has been dropping, but hopefully next Sunday it can be a big thank you to G and we can gracefully move on to the next chapter of Texas A&M University Soccer.
