really impressive. future of the team, give this guy the big bucks. great experience this year for him. midway through last year i said Pop would really start to use this guy more and he is really coming along.

i knew he was talented, i didnt know he would be so poised so early.

Hill is def my favorite spur.

Hill was the X-Factor for the series - he stepped up his play and looks like he will be a really good player for the Spurs.

Guys I wouldn't mind losing:
Parker
Jefferson
Bonner*
Bogans
Mason*

*GTFO now

If the Spurs do trade Parker I'd hope they pick up a backup PG/SG as part of the deal; Temple may or may not end up being good but I wouldn't want to rely on him right off.

Duncan/Blair/McDyess is a stout three man rotation, but Duncan and McDyess are getting up there and it would be nice to have a real 4th post, preferably one who can score in the paint and move pretty well to compliment Manu.

Jefferson has got to show something, there are too many 6'7 guys who can get the ball in the basket to pay that much for less than 10 ppg and A/T under 1.

The Spurs should have Splitter from the looks of things. That will solve a lot of interior problems next year.

I sure hope so. He started over Scola. If he gives us exactly what Scola gives Houston, that will super charge us.

I don't know much about splitter. I know our season isn't over yet, but is there any splash move San Antonio could make this offseason, or is getting splitter in about all we can hope for?

GS is the man for that stuff, but Splitter would be a significant upgrade inside. If we had him right now, I'd be about 90% sure of winning the West.

So is it reasonable to think that the spurs could be an even better team next year even with "the big 3" aging yet another year?

You guys have GOTTA be kidding about Parker. He is 28 and is the perfect complement to Manu and Hill.
And he is cold-blooded in the crunch when you need an outside shot. He's still shaking off rust and getting into playing shape from his injury.

Unless you could get a great, young power forward for him, almost any trade makes no sense.

If we keep this team as is & add Splitter we WILL be a contender next year. Duncan should have 1 more in him & Splitter will actually give the Spurs another low post scoring option. He's the best Euro guy in the paint and a legit 6-11/7 footer that has size and a back to the basket game. Duncan's minutes in the reg season could be dropped another 4-5 mins IMO.

We can get Splitter plus we can use our MLE on something.

Also, Jefferson and Parker are in the last year of their contracts, so if someone decides they can't get their man in 2010, they could gear up for the Carmelo Anthony/Aaron Brooks/Marc Gasol/David West/Kevin Durant class of 2011.

Spurs only have the starting 5 (parker/manu/rj/duncan/dice) along with Blair and Hill under contract. But those 7 put us at the lux tax.
With the MLE, I still want a wing, especially one that could play D or hit open jumpers. Mike Miller could be had for the MLE, and he would probably hit 55% of his open looks.

Gsoup- how do you figure the Spurs are going to manage to pay Splitter more than what he's making in Europe?

For the record, I am now 100% against trading Parker. The rotation with Parker/Hill/Ginobili has been completely NAILS. All three guys can handle, all three guys can play the 2, all three can penetrate, all three can shoot mid-range, and all three are playing within their games. It has made it so that guys like Mason and Temple don't ever have to take the floor.

Parker/Hill/Ginobili is the best trio of guards in the league, and is playing better than just about any three I can remember since the Bad Boy Pistons or maybe Run TMC (sorry if I've forgotten any).

Splitter is a free agent. In 2008, he signed a 2-year deal with Tao.

Obviously Tao wants to keep them, but they also have cash flow/sponsorship problems.

Now, we obviously have the rookie scale problems. However, the NBA made an addendum that stipulates that when a player has been drafted, but has not signed with a team for three years after drafted, the team can sign him to the rookie scale OR they can pay him whatever they have available.

I could be completely wrong, but I believe the Spurs are able to give him the full or partial MLE.

I also heard the MLE. But what I heard is that he is already making more than the MLE in Europe.

Here's the last I heard on it:

I think he is making more than what SA can offer him right now.

Unless his team cuts his pay on his new contract, or he just has the desire to go to the NBA, it will be tough to get him.

If we get him and keep this roster in-tact, we will be very good.

If we can't get him, I'm not sure what you do....but it makes some sense to shop Parker.

Monroe's article really doesn't have any substance.

Right now, he has no contract, and his team isn't the one we are worried about. Tau is hurting financially, and may not offer him that much. HOWEVER, the team we are worried about is Real Madrid. Yeah, that soccer team that buys up all the good players owns a basketball team, too. And they have ****tons of money.

The MLE is tied to the average player's salary, while the MAX FA cap is tied to the league revenue. So while the MAX FA contract can be dipping fairly dramatically, the MLE takes a bit longer to be affected. I believe it was around 5.8mm last year, and will probably be close to the same this year.

Splitter was offered a longer term deal with Tau before. I think he took a 2-year deal for a reason. Now we just have to convince him that the possible lockout won't happen. Splitter's agent has a history of bringing players to America and getting players big contracts (He got Big Ben that ridiculous contract with the Bulls after he was washed up, got TMac, Antwan Jamison and Jermaine ONeal their absolutely insane contracts.

Tiago turns 25 this year. Do you think he wants to wait until he is 27 or 28 to come to the NBA? I hope not.

If the Memphis Grizzles offer 2 first round picks for Parker (Lakers and Nuggets picks), do Spurs fans want that deal?

I think you would be crazy to get rid of Parker, even with the success of Hill.

I definitely keep Tony for at least 1 more year. The Spurs should have 1 more run in them next year, especially if they get Splitter.

George lives across the street from me
Seems very happy in San Antonio and with the Spurs. Extremely polite and modest about his total greatness!
