The dude would see several rings on his hand in the near future.

We'll take him.

You can have Bonner/Mason and cap space.

We'll give you Dirk if you give us George Hill.

I needed a good laugh. The dude can opt out of his contract. I wouldn't trade lint for what you can get for nothing.

This is a horrible idea. Why do we want him to come to SA and make us losers like the Mavs are? This makes no sense. I hear T-Mac is available as well, should we go after him?!?

Dirk and Tim on the same team would be pretty dirty.

I'd quit worrying about the Spurs future if Dirk became a Spur. That is, as long as we could get him cheap.

Dirk would be the absolute ultimate second banana. Maybe even Pippen-esque.

I think there are only 2-3 guys in the league that would drop Dirk into the second fiddle role he would really thrive in; otherwise his outstanding talent would propel him right back to his role in Dallas.

Lebron and Dirk could both be free agents this summer, both want to win titles and might be willing to take a little bit smaller contract. Lebron/Dirk is scarier to me than Lebron/Wade, even though Wade is better than Dirk.

+1

Lebron/Dirk would only fail if there were chemistry/ego issues. That said, I'm pretty sure Dirk would have no problem deferring to Lebron.

If that happened (it won't), I'd probably quit watching basketball. What would be the point?

How in the hell would you defend a LeBron/Dirk P&R?

They are two players that demand a unique athlete to even come close to stopping them, possibly the two biggest physical mismatches in the NBA. No team has two options to deal with that.

Just to get back a little bit to the original topic, Dirk to San Antonio would be a lot like the discussions of Rasheed Wallace to San Antonio last year. I just don't like the guy, and no matter how good he is or how well he fits (and before Wallace dropped off the face of the earth he would have been a very good fit) I would be irritated at the front office for picking him up.

Another thing to consider is that Dirk just finished his 12th season in the NBA, with over 1000 games played not counting international play. When he loses his legs (and it's going to happen soon), he's going to be Kurt Thomas without the defense.

The Spurs' window as legitimate contenders coincides with how much longer Timmy plays, which can't be more than 3-4 more years. Dirk has as much or more left in the tank as Duncan.

While the chances of landing Dirk are next to none, I'd certainly be all for it.

See, I don't think the solution for solving the problem of Duncan running out of gas is dropping 20+ million per year for another aging star.

I think the key is to catch the next generation, don't tie up money in stop-gap measures.

Hell, if they signed Dirk, Timmy might decide to play another 5-6 years (i.e. about 20 minutes per game and sitting out every 3rd game until the playoffs).

If Dirk/Lebron both go to the Knicks... then I'm gonna turn my MFFL card in and exchange it for a Knicks one signed by Spike Lee.
