Halftime of suns spurs they were talking about lebron playng so well, to which Avery added "there's nothing like your MVP playing the same way in the playoff as he did in the regular season"

they all started laughing, he sounded very sarcastic.

Avery's not employed? Then what the hell is he doing getting paid to talk about basketball. I sure would like to not be employed and get to do that instead.

Dirk is not as petty as Avery. He could have said, "it's nice having a coach that sticks with the formula that won 60 regular season games, instead of panicking against former mentor."

Avery's got no room to be casting stones at anyone. Spare of a player and a one-trick pony coach.

The fact that he still collects a paycheck from Cuban should be insult enough.

Letting AJ go was so stupid. He would have gone all the way eventually. Ah well...

Obviously it was not Dirk's best performance ever, but averaging 19.7 pts and 11.3 boards probably wasn't the reason we lost. Our inability to stop Ellis/Davis had a lot more to do with the loss.

Avery takes all of the credit and none of the blame. His post-playoff interviews were ridiculous

Avery was the best coach the Mavs had. Cuban undermined Avery by letting Dirk call the shots. And it's gotten them exactly where they are now. Kind of like another owner of a sports team there in Dallas...

If AJ were such a great coach, surely he would have been offered a job in the past two years. Especially after taking a team to the finals and having a 60+ win season. I wonder if there's a reason I haven't seen where he's been offered or declined a HC position since getting canned. Seems very strange, considering the lack of quality NBA coaches and high turnover.

Maybe there's something to the rumor that multiple Mavs approached Cuban saying they didn't want to stay if Avery was still the coach. If that's true, they could be soft poosays, per reputation, but if so, why is he still a studio guy? There has to be something to that.

Given his short, but very successful track record, you'd think teams would be drooling to pick him up. Yet, they apparently are not. Why?

I think Avery's schtick grows old real quick, especially when it's a bunch of grown men he's yelling at. that sort of stuff works in high school and college when it's a bunch of kids that are being coached, but not in the NBA

He has been. However, Cuban had to pay him $4mm/year through NEXT season. Avery is still getting paid $4mm next year from Cuban. Only a handful of coaches make more than that. (Sloan, Pop, Rivers, Brown, Jackson, Adleman)

Johnson stops getting paid by Cuban as soon as he takes another coaching gig. But he is doubledipping now - getting paid by Cuban and getting paid to announce. I'm guessing being a color guy is a billion times easier than coaching an NBA team. So a team would have to make him the second highest coach in the NBA, just for him to come out on top for quitting the on-air stuff and stop getting Cuban's money.
