To analyze a Suns/Lakers matchup in the playoffs you have to look at the actual matchups.
Steve Nash will present a tricky situation for Phil because if you try to guard him with Fisher/Farmar you get burned on defense and you don't pressure him enough on offense. If you put Kobe on him, then you wear Kobe's legs out too soon in the series or you force your offense to work through someone else. Nash certainly won't be guarding someone who will make him work, which makes him actually pretty fortunate. He's the best offensive PG in the league and you're not even exposing his defensive weaknesses.
The Suns have bodies to throw at Kobe and Grant Hill will probably have the lion's share of the task -- but that is obviously a matchup that favors the Lakers. Again, Kobe could be gassed by trying to guard Nash at the end of games -- but we'll see what approach the Lakers take.
In the post, if the Suns get Robin Lopez back in time, they may actually be able to frustrate the Lakers. No doubt Gasol will get his -- but Odom and Bynum will probably be less successful. I'm guessing Odom spends a lot of time guarding Amare.
Phoenix's bench is way better than the Lakers and that was the difference in the San Antonio series. If Phoenix's starters can just play even with the Lakers starters, their bench can probably win the series for them.
