With all the teams out, might as well continue with the rankings.
For the ranking, assume you are picking the players going into next season, but you only having them for 1 season.

Again, to get something going (2 players used for each team):

1. Manu Ginobilli
2. OJ Mayo
3. Kevin Martin
4. Caron Butler
5. Jason Terry
6. Marcus Thornton
7. Morris Peterson*
8. Chase Budinger**
9. Roger Mason
10. Sam Young

*Peterson used for SG, even though he was starting SF at end of season. (Not perfect)
**Budinger used for SG, while Battier and Ariza reserved for SF rankings.

I'd probably put Butler ahead of Martin. The guy can score, but plays no defense and is injury prone. Other than that, good list.

As a Mavs fan it pains me to say it, but Manu is the far and away #1.

The stats on your top 5:

Ginobli: 16.5 Pts, 3.8 Reb, 4.9 Ast, 1.4 Stls, 22.54 PER
Mayo: 17.5 Pts, 3.8 Reb, 3 Ast, 1.2 Stls, 14.61 PER
Martin: 20.6 Pts, 3.6 Reb, 2.4 Ast, 1 Stl, 17.08 PER
Butler*: 16.3 Pts, 6.2 Reb, 2.1 Ast, 1.6 Stl, 13.77 PER
Terry: 16.6 Pts, 1.8 Reb, 3.8 Ast, 1.2 Stls, 16.58 PER

One note on your rankings. *I would disqualify Butler on the basis that he is a SF not a SG. ESPN lists him as SF and NBA.com lists him as F.

Butler was the Mavs starting SG (with Marion as SF). Hence his inclusion.

1. Manu

if my SG is going to be my primary scoring option, then I'll take Martin at 2. If I need my SG to do anything besides score [defend, rebound] I'll take Butler

You don't need Martin to defend if you have Battier and Ariza on your team playing the 3...

are we doing hypothetically which would you rather have, or which player is the best fit on his team given the other players?

Caron Butler is a natural 3, so for him to be included as a SG muddles up my ranks a little bit. Martin is a better scorer. Butler is tall for the position, good defender and rebounder, and doesn't sacrifice much scoring to do all that. Taking all that into account I'd rather have him at the 2 if we're not looking at any other factors.

1. Manu
2. Butler
3. Martin
4. Mayo
5. Terry

I don't know enough about or care much about the rest of the spares.

Kevin Dallas Martin is a better scorer, but the guy also will miss 20+ games a year. And I'm not sure he makes his teams better. The Rockets are 30-28 without him and 12-12 with him. The Kings went 4-18 with him, and 21-39 without him.
