How bout them Spurs, huh?

I'm going to be shooting a basketball game soon. I have a Nikon D90 with a 70-200mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8.

Which would you recommend for shooting a basketball game? I'm afraid if I use the 70-200, I'll have too much lens for the close up shots underneath the basket. Same for the 50mm. I can always move to maybe two rows back under the basket if need be, probably.

Best team in Texas yet again.

I shot the entire Hornets at Rockets game using only a 70-200mm 2.8L IS on a 7D.

Thanks a bundle, man. I was only worried about having too much glass and being too zoomed in to get full-body shots with the 70-200. For the most part, you got from the waste up while I wanted a few full-body shots. Surprisingly, however, I really like those despite them not being full-body so I know it doesn't have to be to be a good pic and won't worry about it as much. Another thing: I won't be in an arena that's lit as well, nor will I have a flash hanging from the ceiling (although you didn't either). But then again, I can always crank the ISO up; I've never really had a problem with too much noise on my D90, even at 6400. And that's WITHOUT running it through NoiseNinja, Lightroom's Noise reduction, etc.

Yeah, there is no NR on my pics. They are pretty much straight out of the camera. (SOOC)

If you look at some of my previous galleries on US Presswire, you can see I used to shoot more full body stuff. You can get more fully body stuff at 50mm, but sit closer to the 3 point line. Changing lenses during a BB game is a PITA. And a few full-body ones are nice, a mistake that most photographers (especially new photogs) make is that they do not crop nearly tight enough.

Shoot tight, crop tighter. You want the eyes, enough limbs to show what is happening and the ball and nothing more.
