The amount of fouls getting called in this game is laughable

I'm pretty sure the ref made a mistake and thought he was giving the ball to someone at the scorers table.

The fan getting kicked out is the ****ty part. He just tossed the ball back. If he actually got removed from the game, he should raise hell.

JVG had a pretty good opinion on it.

Either way the officiating in this game is horrid.

No I think the ref meant to do it. The fan was walking behind the scorers table and was taunting the crap out of the ref. The ref just threw it right at him.

Between the Reddick "charge," the terrible foul call on Pierce's jumpshot, and then not putting time back after the last timeout, there was some really questionable officiating at the end of that game. Maybe the NBA has already decided Boston/LA is a good consolation prize for not having the Lebron/Kobe final they wanted.

Vince Carter showed why he is Vince Carter in the final 2 minutes. Simply terrible along with most of his teammates. And a bone-headed play by Redick to run time off the clock before the last possession.

Reddick had the same charge call for him against Ray Allen. Paul Pierce was fouled on that play. Watch a replay, his right elbow is pushed out.

If you think that ref's pass was accident, you're crazy.

The fan was mouthing off which is part of game. Ref thought he would be smartass and give him a chest pass. If the guy catches it, great. If it bounces off his face, even better.

I've seen refs interact with fans but it was alright. They were done playfully. Sometimes the fans were yelling at ref, but he had fun with it. That's okay in my book.

If I was running the NBA, Derosa would be fired now. No playoffs and no suspension. Just immediate and permanent termination. If you can't handle a guy yelling at you without throwing a ball at him, find another line of work. Stern will probably suspend him from one playoff game.

You have to act like a professional in this situation. Let the jackoff impress his buddies or whoever else by running his mouth and just ignore him. If anybody has ever been thru an official's training of any kind or been an official of any kind we all know that acting like a professional is a big part of that job and tossing a ball at a fan whether it was meant to be just for kicks is not professional.

Not really unless he said, "pass me the ball please."

Refs should be able to handle that taunting, just like players. Imagine if Artest or Rasheed Wallace did that to a fan. It would be all over every sports page today and they would have been ejected immediately.

Pretty sure he said it was completely unacceptable and that he should be suspended. Said the refs have to be able to handle situations like that.

The ref could have just gone to a security guard and complained about the guy using profanity. Instead he decides to throw the ball at him. Imagine the mess the NBA would have on their hands if it would have broken his nose, or bounced off him and hit a kid in the head.

Actually, I thought he said that the ref handled that situation poorly but that it shouldn't affect his status for calling future games in these playoffs.

Well the announcers were all operating under the assumption that the ref didn't intentionally throw the ball at the fan. I only saw the clip of him throwing the ball once, so make your own assessment.

JVG pretty much scorned the ref (rightfully). Said he's gotta keep his head straight and he should be above verbal taunts. He also talked about how fans think they have a certain level of entitlement just because they pay for a ticket and that means they can act like lunatics. He thought it was rediculous that the fan was being tossed, but that he shouldn't have been up out of his seat yelling.

I thought Mark Jackson made a pretty good point last night (his first good point of the year). What would be the standard if a player or coach did it to a fan? Use that standard?



On a slightly related note, when Kenyon Martin absolutely rejected Hamad Haddadi's shot this year into the crowd and than walked in front of Coach Lionel Hollins, Hollins swated the fan's pass back into the crowd and there were no penalties (except Chauncey Billups picking up a T for some reason).
