He's a gamer. The kind of guy you hate as an opponent but you love as a teammate. A guy who will do whatever is asked of him without complaining or pissing and moaning in the media. And he performs valuable tasks whether or not his shot is falling.

I always have a ton of respect for guys like that. That's the kind of player that makes a good team into a great team. Hate him because he is a laker, but love his game and his attitude.

Fisher suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks

dirty player. Watch him on Nash... EVERY possession could be called a foul. There's being a physical defender... to just downright being a dirty defender. He's the latter

I hate fisher personally, but love his game. It would be nice to have a point guard to fight through picks like he does.

Agree with Mookie. His whole, I'll just retire and move to LA 'cause it's best for my daughter...that was a total BS move.

I hate him with a burning, fiery passion. But he is definitely one of those guys that you love if he's on your team, and hate if he's not. Sort of like our very own Bryan Davis.

Wow Mookie... I guess you forgot about the very trying family issue with his daughter being sick and being able to get better treatment from doctors in LA. Um yea I guess that makes him a POS. Or its the effing tard mormons that boo everytime he goes back that are POS. Some of you need help.

i agree with frank.

shows you how idiotic mookie is.

there were only 3 cancer facilities in the US that could treat his daughter with the advanced treatment for her eye cancer. Chicago, NY, and LA. and he looked to go to all 3 cities.

he's also the president of the players association. he is a well respected nba figure by his peers.

Pretty funny.....people hated Bowen for the same reasons. Dude was a saint off of the court. Somehow Simplebay can't see why people make the same comments about Fisher....shocking. Probably doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Fisher plays for the Lakers.

derek fisher has never been voted the dirtiest player in the nba by his peers. bowen has.

in fact, every poll i've seen shows people hating ron artest and kobe bryant more than derek fisher.

so, uh, naw. i think it's just this board's homerism because the lakers have knocked off the spurs controversially with .4 and fisher's non brent barry foul. also, the lakers knocking off the rockets and fisher putting an elbow to scola's sternum.

that is why fisher is hated on this board. fisher is not hated within the league. no one who is hated within the league gets voted as the president to act as a legal voice for the player's wishes. if you had half a brain you might understand this. making the bowen point completely irrelevant. but nice try butt puddy.

not a spurs fan.

not a rockets fan.

I don't hate Kobe. I may not like him, but I definitely don't hate him.

I don't hate Ron Ron. I will be the first to defend him in the Detroit brawl because he got a very raw deal after everything was settled in comparison to others. I think he's a bit insane, but I don't hate him at all.

I hate Fisher on the court. I'm sure he's a very nice guy, and very well respected off the court. On the court, he does some things you say like fight through screens. However, he also flails worse than Manu to try and get the calls on moving screens, he holds, elbows, grabs, and does end up getting in some pretty cheap shots.

Some may say that teams need that, and I do buy the argument of "you love him if you have him, hate him if you don't"...but just like they are in hockey...he's a sort of an "enforcer." He goes in there to frustrate the crap out of the opposing team's PG, and get into the heads of other stars...and he gets dirty doing it. If he didn't whine so much and act like he's never done anything wrong every time he gets whistled, I wouldn't have a problem with him...however, his whiney face is worse than Duncan's. At some point, the guys who take it upon themselves to go in and be a complete nuisance to the opposing team, try to get under their skin, and grab/elbow constantly need to own it more times than not.

This is hilarious, especially since your role model Kobe always talked about what a great defender that Bowen was. I guess you're going to choose to ignore that, even though it came from a guy you'd pay good money to go down on. Those saying that stuff about Bowen were always the whiny b-tches like Ray Allen and Stoudamire.

Fisher and Bowen are both guys I'd love to have on my team and hate to play against...now that Karl Malone abortion of a year in 2003-04...that was tough to deal with...

Quote "Retinoblastoma is the most common primary ocular malignancy (eye cancer) of childhood."

Any of you with any medical knowledge actually believe that the ONLY facilities in the USA that could treat his daughter's cancer reside in LA, Chicago or NY? Didn't think so. Any major academic medical center (ie, Univ of Utah Health Science Center) in the country with Oncology Dept is more than qualified to treat the most common childhood malignancy, otherwise they wouldn't maintain certification.

So, I don't buy the "super specialized treatment" excuse. But hey, it's your family and you go to where you are going to be most comfortable, just don't try and twist the facts - just say that is where you want to go for treatment.

Kinda like MD Anderson always getting thrown out there or sought out by celebrities b/c of name recognition. So you're telling me that Houston wasn't qualified to treat this "special circumstance" of the most common childhood malignancy?

guess that rules you out Benny. quit being an idiot. why don't you read the facts before opening your big trap.

quote:
Fisher said he wants to live in one of the six or seven cities being considered for Tatum's care.

He didn't rule out playing for another NBA team but emphasized that his daughter's health is his No. 1 priority.

In May, his daughter was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a cancerous tumor in her left eye. The danger is that it could spread to her brain or the rest of her body.

Only 350 cases of retinoblastoma are diagnosed each year in North America, according to Dr. A. Linn Murphree, director of the retinoblastoma program at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, who is not involved in the Fisher case.

In most cases, patients lose the eye rather than undergo chemotherapy, but there are exceptions.

quote:
She had been diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a degenerative and rare form of eye cancer, which required an emergency three-hour surgery and chemotherapy at New York's Presbyterian Hospital.

quote:
How is retinoblastoma treated?
The most common method is to remove the affected eye. However there are several alternatives like laser therapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy to conserve the eye.

What is the new treatment being discussed in Tatum Fisher's case?
Dr. David Abramson and Dr. Pierre Gobin of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have developed a new treatment called intra-arterial chemotherapy, which can save the eye. It involves injecting a high dose of chemotherapy into the artery of the retina.

so, yeah, in MOST CASES he couldve stayed in Utah and gotten treatment, and she probably would've lost the eye. as it turns out, because of their move, she still has the eye and the cancer is completely in remission.

so, again...STFU. you have no idea what you're talking about. the cancer is NOT common with only 350 cases a year on average. and in most cases, the child loses the eye. now, because of Fisher's experimental treatment, kid's are possibly able to keep their eye.

OK, now you're disclosing a little more:

- Gone from 1 of only 3 cities that she could receive the care they desired, to 6 or 7 cities (which of those weren't NBA player destination cities I don't know). The only reason I responded to your post was that I found it quite unrealistic that only those 3 cities were options.

- Never did I state that retinoblastoma is common, reading comprehension buttmunch. It is the "most common childhood ocular malignancy", meaning if a medical center has a pediatric oncology dept, they probably have experience in treating this disease.

- Yeah, chemoembolization - not a recent breakthrough in field of oncology but apparently more and more applications are being pursued/researched (as in this case).

- Try not to take things so personally if they involve your team, I just posted an opinion on a student/alumni message board. I'm sure Mr Fisher and his daughter aren't upset with me.
