This is all of me.
I hate seeing good coaches get chewed up in the NBA. Izzo is probably the most underrated coach in college ball. I would hate to see him tarnish his legacy Pitino-style.

Izzo is always in the conversation for top college bball coach & at worst is listed top 5. He gets as much love from writers & pundits as any current coach. He's far from underrated.

Just my opinion.

You hardly ever hear his name mentioned among the likes of Calipari, Pitino, Williams and Coach K. I think he's every bit as good if not better than all of them.

You can be held in high regard and still be underrated. I think Izzo falls into that category.

I haven't heard Pitino's name listed above his in awhile & especially after this past year, and Calipari isn't in those conversations either with his tourney track record.

He's been to the Final Four 40% of his years as HC.

Sports Illustrated ran a story before this year's FF calling him the best coach in the country. It's basically Coach K, Williams & Izzo.

You can be held in high regard & underrated I suppose, but when you are called the best by many & at worst top 3 by just about all, it's hard to be considered underrated.

Agree to disagree. That SI piece was written just after the tournament. That's about the only time Izzo gets his due, because somehow year after year he's challenging for the final four. Seems like Coach K and Roy Williams can have a couple down years and they're still listed among the elite. If MSU ever has a couple of bad years in a row suddenly you don't hear Izzo's name as much.

Just my opinion.

It's also the program. Izzo doesn't get the superstar treatment like the other coaches do thanks to Michigan State not being a glamour program (despite being one of the best five programs in the past ten years).

Indiana is a "glamour" program.

Louisville is right there with Syracuse & GTown, etc. They've been a top ranked program through multiple decades & coaches.

Florida & the sips don't belong in the conversation. You can't be a "football first" school and be in that conversation. Florida, similarly to football, was insignificant prior to Kruger having a couple of good years then leaving. Donavan obviously struck gold in a couple of years, but they've struggled to make the tourney since. The sips have been to 1 FF.

Ohio State is the only "football first" school that has an argument since they have been very good in different periods and with different coaches & they continue to be significant.

This may be heresay that I haven't bothered looking up, but I heard that since Izzo, every MSU player who has stayed all 4 years has been to at least 1 Final Four.

I'm hoping the guy stays at MSU. There is no doubt in my mind that he'd just turn out to be another payday-taking, chewed-up-and-spit-out head coach in the NBA.

If they want a high profile coach, they can hire Coach Geno Auriemma.
