he's been pretty healthy since coming back from the knee surgery

Since Amare's microfracture surgery he's missed 32 games (29 for eye). In that same period DNP's Lee: 27, Boozer: 58, Bosh: 45, Wade: 70

If he has a healthy long career going forward he will be about the first.

The suns offer of 95 million had the last two years with minimum playing time or 40% was not guaranteed so there is reason for some concern.

I'd be much more worried about his heart than his knees. Half a year (a contract year at that) max effort in an entire career would be a much bigger concern if I was a Knicks fan.

I've read that he's one good poke in the eye away from being done with his career, as well.

Who knows. It's not 2 out grand slam in the bottom of the 9th, but it's a go ahead shot in the bottom of the 8th for sure....IF he plays like he did 2nd half of last season.

Yeah, the injury "concerns" are a little overblown. I only hear them from people dissing the Knicks for signing him. It's not like the Suns didn't make him an offer. But they have had well publicized financial issues and can't afford to take this kind of gamble.

I personally think Amare is better than Bosh. Granted, I think Bosh may be the most overhyped free agent in history.

The risk is that once you have had microfracture, your knee is destined to deteriorate over time. The risk is greater for a guy like him that relies on athleticism and jumping ability to dominate. He's not the kind of player that has a great all around game, so if he loses his athletic advantage he could go from All Star to barely able to make a roster in short order. Compare him to Duncan who has tendonosis of his knees. Duncan will never have hops like he once did but he is uber smart, has tremendous hands and vision, and can shoot the ball from anywhere inside 15 feet with either hand and in a dozen ways. Even if he can barely jump off the ground he can contribute to any team.
