If you are Lebron, how do you NOT go to Chicago with Bosh?

If he is having an hour long TV show to announce that he is (drum roll) staying in Cleveland, how big of a turd is that?

Lebron's definitely not going to Chicago now... I wouldn't rule him out of going to NY or NJ though... especially if the Cavs can't bring anything else to the team.

It's all about guaranteed money. There is more of it in Cleveland, if I understand how the process works.

Lebron could still go to Chicago with Boozer and that would be a stacked team.

I agree, but if LeBron wanted to go to Chicago he could have had Bosh come with him. The fact that Bosh is headed to Miami tells me that Chicago whiffed on all the major FA's.

Wade would earn something like $30 million less in Chicago than he could in Miami. I think the kid thing is the main reason Chicago is even in the picture.

That $30MM figure isn't quite accurate. It would be a 5 year deal in CHI as opposed to a 6 year deal in MIA. He could easily sign another contract after the 5 year deal is up to make up most of that $30MM figure.

There is a ton of uncertainty regarding length and amounts of contracts that will be available after next year when the current CBA expires.

I don't pretend to know everything about NBA contracts and I know there is an extra year involved, but I do know it's $30 mil more of guaranteed money.

Who knows what will happen with the CBA?

What if Wade has a career ending injury or his skills decline before it's time to sign his next contract?

I happen to agree that Chicago would seem to be the better fit if winning titles were the only factor, but I also can't pretend to know what's best for him or everything he's thinking. $30M is a lot of money and he already has a title. He really likes Miami and maybe he has less confidence in Chicago.

With Wade and Bosh, it seems obvious that the extra $30 million guaranteed was the difference. If it's purely a basketball decision, I think they both choose Chicago.

But ultimately, there were just too many flaws in the Bulls pursuit.

1) Almost, but not enough cap space for two max players
2) The impracticality of just "dumping" Lu and/or Taj, without an explicit guarantee Wade and Bosh would sign there (I would imagine they tried but failed to dump Johnson).
3) Bosh wanted a 6-year, max deal. Bosh and Wade were an item. It would be weird if Bosh and Wade teamed up and Bosh made more money.
4) The Bulls probably couldn't have pulled off two sign and trades. And Miami probably wouldn't sign and trade Wade to Chicago in the first place.

I could still see Lebron choosing Chicago. But I think it's HIGHLY unlikely. Announcing on ESPN means huge ego. He is loved in Cleveland. He would potentially be more loved in New York. In Chicago, he would never be loved as much as MJ. Chicago eliminated.

Again, it sucks because in a straight up basketball decision, signing to play with Rose and Noah seems to clearly be his best route.

But oh well. I think the Bulls will be ok. Without Wade and/or Lebron, Rose will be unleashsed to reach his full potential (which I think is very high). Noah + Boozer? will be extremely tough down low. If you add a shooter/defender, plus throw in Tibs defensive strategies, the Bulls have the makings of an EXTREMELY tough out in a 7-game series.

That's not to say that I didn't want LBJ/Wade/Bosh. This is an extreme let down. But I follow Aggie recruiting, so I'm a specialist in seeing the glass half full :-)

Interesting about Bosh and the S&T. From everything I've heard in the past weeks, Bosh wants the sixth year/guaranteed money. But maybe he's changed his tune.

One thing for sure, I'd let Bosh walk before I take Beasley if I'm Toronto.

I wouldn't rule out Lebron joining NJ with Lee or Boozer. Same goes for NY.

But I'd say Cleveland is the heavy favorite at this point.

People are losing site of the fact that Wade / Bosh / Beasley is nothing to sneeze at. Is that team as good as Chicago's would have potentially been? No. Is it still pretty damn good? Yep.

Who's going to rebound the ball?

Who's going to play interior defense?

Who's going to space the floor with their shooting ability so Bosh and Wade can drive?

If they don't find some role players, they are flat out screwed. And don't give me the: they'll flock to Miami to play with them. The only guys who give up a payday to chase rings are veterans at the backside of their careers and they'll have to compete to sign those with the LA, Boston, Dallas, SA, etc bunch.
