So you are bidding against the Knicks, assuming that they are going to sign Haywood over Lee for about the same amount of money and that they want to get another center with their cap space, rather than try to fill their needs at guard.
I think Dallas got into a situation where losing him would be a catastrophe and you end up bidding against yourself to keep him and avert that catastrophe. Same thing happened with Kidd last year.
