6 years 55 million

Too many years but not bad per year IMO

They needed to do this today so Lebron can be lured to Dallas

You started the thread wrong. The title should read

LOL @ Dallas
And the correct icon would be

Clearly too long for a guy that turns 31 the first month of the season. I think they overpaid, but it seems like everyone is getting overpaid this offseason.

I would imagine (hoping) the 5th and/or 6th year are option years. Long time for his age, but not many other options at C. Huge upgrade over Dumpier.

DM News says 5 years - $55 million.

Against the Spurs in the playoffs - a team you want to play your best posts - Ericka played 23.6mpg and Haywood played 23.2mpg.

Haywood was the best true center available in free agency, but I don't think he is a huge upgrade over Damp.

It's better than losing him in FA and then having to overpay for Jermaine O'Neal or be left with no one.

If Cuban has 11mm/year for Haywood, he has to have 5.7mm/year for me.

Who else is bidding for him? The Knicks. Maybe.

The Heat have their three, allegedly. The Nets have Lopez. The Clippers have Captain Kaman and the Okie. Chicago has Noah/Boozer. The Kings have Dalembert, Demarcus Cousins, and Hassan Whiteside. No one else has cap room.

So you are bidding against the Knicks, assuming that they are going to sign Haywood over Lee for about the same amount of money and that they want to get another center with their cap space, rather than try to fill their needs at guard.

I think Dallas got into a situation where losing him would be a catastrophe and you end up bidding against yourself to keep him and avert that catastrophe. Same thing happened with Kidd last year.

That's possible. I think it's just as likely that it was more convenient to bloat Haywood's contract a bit on a resign then to either use the full MLE or use the main trade chips to acquire a center, given the Mav cap restrictions.

11mm/year??? Math fail.

Plus new reports indicate the last year is partially guaranteed for 4mm with 7mm in incentives. The first year will be 7.26mm which is not too high above the MLE - this is what the Mavs have done with other contracts

Total guaranteed looks to be 48mm over 6 years at 8mm/year average. That's a decent rate for a starting center. No need to get in a fight with other teams offering full mle

He'll be overpaid, but I understand them wanting to lock him up. There are a lot of teams with money to throw around, so teams are going to have to overpay to get guys.

Dallas News

Yahoo! Sports reported the terms have been agreed and are five years, $55 million.

That looks a lot like 11mm per year. I'm no math major or anything, but **** that looks a lot like 11mm/year.

And I have no doubt that the last year is non-guaranteed.

The 5 yr / 55 was from a tweet by yahoo, which the author immediately corrected as a typo. The dumbass at the dmn didn't catch it. In the twitter era it's tough to keep up and you have to be careful

DMN also has it at 5yr

Not real clear, just yet. In any event, it is a long deal and a pretty rich deal.

good lord this is dumb... would have been better off committing to Jermaine O'Neal or Shaq for 2 years than Haywood for 6. Mark Cuban continues to toy with mediocrity. I now wish Dirk would have just left and gone to NYC, Chicago, or Cleve.

i actually like the move. i think sitting haywood was carlisle's biggest blunder not involving Rowdy Roddy.

Probably not a great free agent signing. He was 12th in PPG for the Mavs this year.
