Not enough of an upgrade to enable the Heat to sign the big three. It isn't like Tyson is going to be the guy that pushes the Rockets over the top. Just a solid player to play the 30+mpg that Yao can't play. Also, he is hugely injury prone. On the positive, he has a 12mm contract that is ending next year, so he could be a trade chip in February. However, there aren't a ton of good 2011 FAs, especially now that Melo seems to be resigning.

Plus the Rockets have to include a minimum of 3.1mm more outgoing to Toronto to make the deal work with the cap restrictions. That means someone else, possibly two more, players are involved.

Uhhh, if that's enough to buyout the freaking Rockets, the other GMs should flog him on national TV for helping the Heat out on this deal.

The Rockets aren't helping Miami get the "Big 3". They will go there regardless.

They are simply taking advantage of the situation by upgrading from Jeffries to Chandler for bumpkiss.

If the Rockets were taking on beasley for Salary cap space or a TPE, THAT would be like helping them get the Big 3. As it is, none of the players the Rox would be getting or giving have anythign to do with Toronto or Miami.

How far has Beasley fallen?

In some 2008 draft discussions on who should be the top pick, Beasley is now being shopped around like a VHS tape of Caddyshack 2.

So they are giving up Jeffries for an injury-prone backup center who makes like $13MM this season.

Folks, that's not a very good deal. I'd rather hold on to Jeffries for salary fodder potential in another deal.

They are giving up a useless, expiring 3rd string PF, for a useful, expiring, back-up C. It's all about Depth behind Yao. With Scola, Hill and patterson at the 4, Jeffries is not needed. But behind Yao, there is only David Andersen and Chuck Hayes. I'd say that could use a little talent.

Chandler isn't going to be asked to play 30 min per game, so one would hope he could stay healthy enouhg for 15-20 minutes to spell Yao and play some defense.

I'm a Rockets fan and think Morey is really good, but I'd take the dude in OKC, Portland, San Antonio... and maybe even Pat Riley over Morey right now, but that's about it.

I think Morey's a very good GM and probably the most numbers savvy guy, but the jury's still out on him building a distinct championship contention team. Being 12 deep and having a lot of trading chips is all well and fine, but you have to eventually find that legit top 10 player to be considered a serious title contender... when he finally does that, I'll completely buy into him. I've even heard Morey himself say that in interviews when people start sucking him off.

I don't think the Big 3 go to Miami if they aren't getting the Max. You can't give all three the max if you still have Beasley. Anyone that takes Beasley and clears the ~3mm that Miami needs to clear to sign the big three is aparty to Miami getting them there.

Show me one GM who could keep his team competitive with half of their salary cap on the injured list.

Although I will say I think Presti is the smartest GM in the league, with Morey in second.
