Just realized that Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler both have one year left on their contracts worth a combined $22.6 million.

So the mavs traded their Damp Chip for the Chandler Chip, and if he doesn't pan out, they can move Butler and Chandler to a team looking to dump salary for $22 million in worthwhile players.

The more I look at this, the more I think this was a move to land CP3 and Okafor at the trade deadline. The fact that he's demanding a trade now might make problems for the Mavs plans, but I think this was Cuban's end goal.

That's my read as well. They couldn't land a legit superstar in a sign and trade and determined that CP3 wasn't available until after the season starts (oops). Therefore they made a move to stay flexible while also improving.

Mavs made the right move. They made several attempts for Paul with DUST and it never worked out. One thing is Chris Paul has almost no leverage. NO doesn't have to do crap for him.

All in all I think the Mavs did the right thing the time to move on after NO brass said he wasn't for trade. No way Cuban and Donnie could have seen that Paul was going to throw a tantrum to try and get his way out of NO.

I agree that they made the right move. Improved the team while still "keeping their powder dry." I honestly don't think we'll see CP3 traded until the deadline anyway.
