Anthony is weighing whether to sign a three-year, $65 million extension offered by the Nuggets. His dilemma, league sources say, is what affords him the best chance of continuing his career elsewhere. Anthony could sign with Denver and convince the team to then trade him. His other option would be to not sign the extension, thereby forcing the team to move him rather than risk losing him next summer as a free agent.

Cmon Morey, make it happen!!

Not sure I want Morey involved. Melo has his heart set on NY. If Houston trades for him he may just be a rental.

It'd be great to have him as a Rocket. Unfortunately, it would only be for one year, and then we would be left with nothing when he leaves for NY.

You don't make that mover unless there is an agreement for a contract extension in place, if your the Rockets.

If you're Melo you don't want to make such an agreement until you see how the Rocks play.

Bottom line there is no real reason to hurry and sign the extension unless he is worried about a major injury. He can bide his time and see how things pan out around the league. Outside of the injury concern there is just no reason to be in hurry to do anything but wait and see. He actually holds all the cards.

i'm a rockets fans and i would not hesitate at all to add melo, even it was just for a year.

with yao, i almost feel like this has to be an "all-in" year for the rockets. if he stays healthy, then obviously your chances to win go up significantly, but i'm still not sure that roster is good enough to get out of the west. if you add melo to the mix, well then maybe they can.

if yao doesn't stay healthy, well then you have to figure out how to move on without him and you'd be looking at some significant tweaks to the roster anyway.

and who knows, maybe melo likes houston and decides to re-sign. but even if he doesn't, you'd be in a position to do a sign and trade if it helps your team.

the way i see it, there are very few true difference makers in this league. melo is arguably a top 5 player (behind kobe, lebron, dwade and durant) and at least a top 8-10 player (you could also make arguments for dirk and howard). when you have a chance to add one of those players, even if it is just for the year, i think you have to do it.

depends on what the nuggets are looking for.

i'd imagine they're not interested in simply getting expiring deals, so maybe they'd be interested in a package with martin and hill? you'd have to add jeffries to make the money work and, if they want to clear birdman's deal, the rockets could use ariza's trade exception. could always toss in a first roud pick.

maybe they'd want budinger?

i know melo wants to go to new york, but i just can't see why denver would make that deal. would new york trade both danilo and wilson chandler? curry would obviously have to be included to make the money work. but new york can't offer a 1st round pick until 2014.

and for the record, i haven't really looked into what some other teams could offer, so by no means am i suggesting that the rockets' offer above would be acceptable to denver. but the bottom line is that they're not going to get "fair value" for him.

If to get Anthony here even if it is only for one year, hell yes I'd trade Hill, Martin, and Jeffries. That is if that's all it takes.

Carmello Anthony instantly makes your team better.

Word is Melo would be interested in long term deal with Rockets.

I've been a bit slower than most Rockets fans to bow down and worship Morey, but if he gets Anthony AND gets him to sign an extension, I take back a lot of my drawbacks regarding Morey.

We give up Jeffries/Brooks/Battier/Hill and two first round picks.

until i hear it straight from morey's or melo's mouth, i'm going to take his "interest" in signing with houston long-term with a grain of salt. if we've learned anything from nba superstars over the past few months, it's that talk is cheap.

that being said, one thing that's nice about the rocket's situation (and for which morey deserves credit) is that they've got some flexibility in what they offer denver.

if denver just wants expiring contracts, to save some cash and to acquire some draft picks, the rockets could take melo and birdman and send denver battier and jeffries (both expiring deals) the rocket's 1st round pick next season and either the rocket's or knick's 2012 pick (plus ariza's trade exception).

if denver wants young talent in return, the rockets have decent young talent available too.

i would assume the knicks' offer would involve danilo and curry. the nets' offer would likely involve devin harris and maybe troy murphy?

if melo truly is open to playing in houston long-term, i like the rockets' chances of putting together a more attractive trade package than ny or nj.

Not interested, unless he'll sign an extension.

My gut is that he wants to go somewhere cool with other young super stars -- i.e. NY, Orlando, Chicago.
