I don't know. Westbrook averaged more assists than Derrick Rose and more points than Rajon Rondo last season. He torched the Lakers in their first round series and is probably the fastest end-to-end of the bunch. Probably second to Rose as an athlete. He's also a better defender than Rose and slightly below Rondo.

Rose

And It's not even close

I'm excited to see what he can do on that team with a legitimate post scorer and a great shooter added.

Rondo no doubt!! He averaged a triple-double for an entire playoff series. He's big in big games!

He has no jumper. If he did he'd have two rings.

Rondo. Best defender at PG in the NBA, and is content to play the point rather than work for his own shot. He has been Boston's best player for two years now.

If I have a super talented roster and only need a point guard to facilitate, play d and make hustle plays, I'd take Rondo.

On any other team, I take Rose.

So on the kind of teams the USA puts together for international play, and the kind of team that contends for titles?

Rajon Rondo and it's not as close as you're making it out to be.

How can you possibly say it's not close?

Because just the last playoffs we saw how Rondo is quite possibly the best PG in the league and one of the best 10 players in the league. Rose and Westbrook are aspiring to be as good as Rondo is.

No one is saying Rondo isn't good.

But to call him "not even close" better than Rose is complete craziness.

Why did you quote me as saying "not even close", when I didn't even say that? I said it's not as close as people are making it out to be.

We saw Rondo against a Miami team without a PG worth a shat & then against a couple of decent PG's, but guys that aren't anything like Rose & the Western Conference PG's. Then he got to play a past his prime Fisher, who outplayed him in the 4th quarter of games 3 & 7.

Yeah, that clearly cemented his status at the top of the league.

The general gist of this thread seems to have Rondo and Rose pretty close.

If you are saying it's "not as close as we're making it out to be," does that mean Rondo is head and shoulders above Rose?

Words... here are Rondo's numbers:

2010 playoffs: 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 9.3 assists to 3.0 turnovers, 1.9 steals

2010 season: 13.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 9.8 assists to 3.0 turnovers, 2.3 steals

2009 playoffs: 16.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 9.8 assists to 2.7 turnovers, 2.5 steals

When he needs to be the star, he dominates the entire court. Rose is a great, great scorer no doubt, but he doesn't dominate on both ends of the court. I want to say that Rondo makes the people around him better, but I don't feel quite right making that argument since he has more to work with than Rose.

Here are Rose's numbers:

2009 Regular Season (Rookie) - 16.8ppg, 6.3apg, 48% FG

2009 Playoffs - 19.7ppg, 6.0apg, 49% FG

2010 Regular Season - 20.8ppg, 6.4apg, 49% FG

2010 Playoffs - 26.8ppg, 7.2apg, 46% FG

There's definitely a case to be made for taking Rondo over Rose. No doubt. It depends on supporting cast, personal definition of a point guard, etc.

But there's no way you could say that Rondo holds a clear edge over Rose. And this doesn't take into account that Rose is 21 and just finished his second season.

Just for comparison for you guys erroneously leaving Westbrook out

Rookie Year

15.3 ppg 4.9 boards 1.9 steals 5.3/3.3 assists/to

2nd Year

16.1 ppg 4.9 boards 1.9 steals 8.0/3.27 assists/to

2010 Playoffs

20.5 ppg 6.0 boards 1.7 steals 6.0/2.33 assists/to

He's just as athletic and extremely quick off the dribble just like Rondo and Rose. This argument should include all 3 guys.

Haha, we're not leaving russwest out because we think he sucks. I love russwest. Love his quickness/athleticism, love his 12 footer in the lane, love his ability to finish. I just think he's No. 3 of those three. Not by much. And No. 3 behind Rose and Rondo isn't an insult.

ESPN is all over him, although they always couch it in terms of "an underrated star". They still talk about him a lot and in glowing terms, so I don't really think he is underrated. The praise has increased along with his growth as an NBA player.
