I'll play:

Southwest Division
Spurs: 50.5 under - Most Spurs fans haven't experienced this because they've been fortunate enough to have a top flight franchise big man for like 20 straight years, but as a Rockets fan I've seen it. When the heart and soul of your franchise is a big man and he starts getting older, your team ages exponentially no matter how many young guys you put around them. They've taken a dip in wins like 3 or 4 straight seasons... I see no reason why that'd stop.

Mavericks: 49.5 over - Best team in the division... they'll win 50 by default

Rockets: 48.5 under - Lots of players I like, but they'll continue being exposed on defense. So long as Brooks and Martin are together as the backcourt, this team won't be much better than .500... and I like both players a lot too.

Hornets: 41.5 over - Won like 38 last season without Paul for half the year. They are bound to be at least 5 games better w/ him.

Grizzlies: 38.5 under - Gut play here. Mostly, I'll believe Rudy Gay doesn't become a complete slouch now that he's paid and that Randolph keeps his head screwed on right for 2 straight seasons when I see it.

Other West
Lakers: 56.5 under - They become a team that plays for the playoffs and start taking too many games off

OKC: 51.5 over - way over

Portland: 51.5 under - Same feelings as Iowaggie

Jazz: 49.5 over - Jefferson is a bigger beast than Boozer... only big hole is at SG which is huge, but they have enough rotational depth to work around that

Nuggets: 43.5 over - With a lockout looming, the Nuggets have a lot more leverage with Carmelo than what teams had with their superstars this past offseason. They'll stick with him if for nothing else, they won't trade him for .60 on the dollar and screw over their fans.

Suns: 41.5 over - Nash is still the leader of the team. This record implies they miss the playoffs and if Nash is there, I don't see that happening.

East
Heat: 64.5 over - They all have a huge chip on their shoulders after this summer... I'll just leave it at that.

Magic: 54.5 over - Gut play... I could easily see them falling under too with VC being a year older and whatnot.

Celtics: 54.5 over - Another gut play. Only reason I'm taking them as an over is their added depth.

Bulls: 46.5 over - They are going to be the surprise beast team in the East now that they have an offensive post presence.

edit: justifications

Teams of interest -

Southwest Division
Spurs: 50.5 - Over - This is basically betting on whether Duncan stays healthy or not.

Mavericks: 49.5 - Over

Rockets: 48.5 Over - I think they would like to rest Yao more, but they will need to be at 50 wins to be a playoff team, which I think they are

Hornets: 41.5 Over I think NO wants to get someone to join CP3, and it could happen this year.

Grizzlies: 38.5Over Team started 1-9 last year, and then won 39 games in the remaining 72. Also, have Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol in a contract year. Plus, the Law man cometh.

Other West
Lakers: 56.5 Under Of all listed, this and the Spurs are the ones I'm the least confident in. I think down the stretch, health will be a bigger motivator than home court.

OKC: 51.5 Over
Portland: 51.5 Under Chemistry problems between Miller and Roy, Rudy Fernandez doesn't want to be there, and they had 5 DNP because of injury in their most recent preseason game. I think this team has problems.
Jazz: 49.5Over Could be better than last years team because of Big Al.
Nuggets: 43.5Over Vegas must believe 'Melo is gone. I think the Carmello rumors will be out there like the Amar'e ones, but I think he sticks around.

Suns: 41.5 Over Nice job developing depth.

East
Heat: 64.5 Over
Magic: 54.5 Over
Celtics: 54.5 Under
Bulls: 46.5Over

maybe i'm just hedging my team but i'm taking the under with OKC. it won't be by much (a game or so), but they just had too much go right last year, and they aren't going to sneak up on people anymore

SW division:
Spurs: 50.5 UNDER- I think there is too much age on this team, along with the fact that Duncan's health could be a huge problem this year. They'll still make the playoffs, but barely.

Mavs: 49.5 OVER- only by one or two games, this team is aging, but I feel that they still can win 50 games having Dirk. I also feel Roddy will have a big season and will most likely take over the PG position for Kidd midway through the season.

Rockets: 48.5 WAY OVER- I'll be honest and say I'm drinking the kool-aid, but I had the opportunity to intern for the rockets a bit this past summer and Yao looks fantastic. Martin finally knows the offense and will become the go-to guy. Scola will still be Scola and put up 15 and 10, Lee adds a lot to the team's athleticism, and I think Aaron Brooks might be the third best PG in the western conf. I say 52-56 wins.

Hornets: 41.5 OVER- this number seems way too low. I don't think this team makes it to the playoffs, but with CP3 there they'll at least be above .500.

Grizzlies: 38.5 UNDER- they have the talent and the potential, however they are still young, no homecourt advantage, and poor coaching leads to a bad season.

Other West:
Lakers: 56.5 UNDER- once they clinch a spot, they'll rest Kobe, Odom, and Gasol the last ten to fifteen games this season.

OKC: 51.5 WAY OVER- This team is my surprise team in the west. I think KD is the best player in the NBA, the guy is unguardable and he works his butt of every night no matter what. Westbrook is going to be a prolific PG, and Scott Brooks is a great coach.

Jazz: 49.5 Over- they got Jefferson, and Sloan is still there, this team is solid and will win at least 50 games.

Portland 51.5 UNDER: Lost Steve Blake, the health of the team is in question, and I just do not think Roy can carry them.

Nuggets: 43.5 UNDER: I think they'll get rid of melo before the deadline. He wants out and they want him out. They have good players but not one real go-to guy, this team might win 40.

Suns: 41.5 OVER: Nash is still there, and with that they are still a playoff team year in and out. Also I think Dragic is going to be huge this year.

I really could care less about the east, but...
Heat: UNDER
Celtics: UNDER
MAGIC: UNDER
BULLS: WAY OVER
HAWKS: OVER
