You beat me to it by seconds.

I know I'm always down on Parker because of his defense, but this will enable the Spurs to remain relevant throughout the rest of Duncan's career. It's pretty amazing that a group of three guys can stay together for over a decade and contend for a championship in every year doing so. What other post-merger trio has had this much success for this long period of time? I can't think of one.

Jordan/Pippen/Paxson
Bird/McHale/Parish
Magic/Worthy/Kareem/Cooper
Zeke/Dumars/Laimbeer/Rodman (yes I know they only had 2 trophies but they were good for much longer than that and played in a stacked league)

I'd say after the early/mid-90's you started to see free agency really pick up and start to result in big paydays, and it became damn near impossible to keep 3 stars together in any one place due to egos, posses and the endless pursuit of being "the guy".

I like Tony but I have my doubts about him. I would have been interested to see what kind of deal he could get on the open market.

I understand the signing though. Pop and Buford want to keep the band together until Duncan hangs it up.

I think the Spurs have a good group to build on even when Duncan steps away.

A lot of athleticism there. If the Spurs can get another All-Star caliber player after Duncan/Manu are gone, they could still contend.

Lakers are the team to beat, but Pao is 30. Hard to believe Kobe is 32. Odom is 30. Artest is 30. Fisher is ancient. Bynum is constantly injured. They will start to slip within a couple of years.
