Don't get your hopes up. They'll crash out to a 6/7/8 seed in the 1st round. Spurs were just tired from all their winning.

The Mav's defense looked pretty damn good. They just outplayed the Spurs in the 4th.

Will dirk shoot that % every time? That's what won the game.

-Will Bonner guard Dirk one-on-one on the high post in crunch time again? That makes it too easy.

-Tyson Chandler in a contract year is pretty ****ing good, but they still don't play championship level defense

-Same old Mavs - this is now year 7 of the failed inconsistent Jet/Dirk 2 man game on offense. Year 7 of searching for a 2nd All-star. Year 11 of looking for a 2nd bonafide superstar.

That is a tough back to back sweep. Pretty amazing they are doing this and roddy is not even playing. If they can beat the lakers, the will have swept the supposed best four teams in the NBA.

Mavs finally have real post players.

Every year the mavs start out hot, beat some good teams, then everyone comes out of the woodwork talking about "they're for real." It's not gonna happen with Dirk as your center piece...it's hasn't and it never will.

Sure, the Mavs can beat anyone. Same as every year. It seems as though the road team has had the upper hand in the Spurs vs. Mavs series lately though, I wouldn't read too much into that win.

you guys really have issues taking criticism, especially over grown men playing in the NBA. You know they (the players) don't care about you right? You arguing, bad mouthing, name calling, etc over these guys doesn't matter one bit to them and it doesn't make ya'll part of the Mavs, Spurs, Rockets, etc; you know that right?

Based on history, the Mavs always look "amazing" at some point, then tank. It's fact, not a biased opinion of a rival fan. Ya'll just relax

It's hard to put any stake in their play right now. While it's encouraging when you end streaks of 7, 8, and 12 games against teams like the Jazz and Spurs (both away games), and they're certainly the hottest team right now, that really doesn't mean much to me this early in the year.

Not only have those teams had streaks that long, but the Magic, Celtics, and Thuggets are all streaking right now too.

The one thing that is encouraging me right now is the defense. That's something that's actually useful in the playoffs. I agree with what was said above. We need to find something besides the Dirk iso offense, it doesn't work in a playoff series.

Tonight's game sealed it for me - the team is finally playing tough defense for their coach again. There was a huge letdown after 2007 which got worse after Avery left, but they have managed to change the culture back to where it should be. Credit mostly the coaching staff and Tyson Chandler's arrival. Is anyone still bitter about trading for Chandler instead of Al Jefferson?

They are statistically a solid top 5 defense 20 games into the season, and I think they will stay there. The culture has changed - so much about defense is related to effort and focus.

The team plays their best when they are scoring in transition off of defensive stops - this is the key to avoiding getting trapped in the isolation-only offense.

Clearly its Dallas since they have played tougher opponents and beat the spurs.

Every year, the Mavs have a great regular season record. Even in down years, they're good for 50 wins. The problem is that Jet and Dirk disappear at key moments in the playoffs. They can clearly play, and clearly play well in the playoffs, but they routinely choke when it counts.

meh. the starting lineup is still an average age of like 41. marion and butler might be playing well now, but everyone knows that won't last. chandler will get hurt like he always does. brian cardinal is getting too many minutes [anything greater than zero is too many for him]. kidd is still old and worthless. dirk might score 20 points per game until he's 60 years old. he doesnt age. he's like a german cyborg programmed specifically to shoot awakard, one-legged fadeaways.

I agree with the previous poster. They are playing the best basketball in the league without a doubt.

I feel sorry for you mavs fans. It's pretty cruel what Dirk and his team does to you every year. Makes you feel like you might have a chance and then all of a sudden, you guys choke it all away. Don't get to excited guys, you know it's coming as long as Dirk is your guy.

the genius of what the Mavs do lies in their ability to convince fans, every single season, that somehow THIS season will be different than all of the past seasons. I know we've let you down before, but THIS is the year.

I am sure the SA fans have got the spin machine going strong on this one, but the Mavs look very legit this year. Only a homer SPur fan would look at these two teams and there players this year and say that SA is the better team.

Mavs fans have to accept that no matter how good the Mavs have been the Spurs have been better..

no they have not. Spurs have had a much easier schedule. Spurs lost at home to the Mavs. Mavs have better players and play equal or better defense this year.

I don't follow NBA until ~late April, so I don't know. But I did notice that the Mavs are #3 in the league in defense (PPG). I don't know how good they are tempo-adjusted, but that seems like a pretty good stat.
