When did this rule vanish?

Did the NBA/refs decide the game would be more exciting if 3 or 4 steps were allowed?

Seems like they are cracking down on it (among other calls) in the college game and letting up on it in the pros.

They changed the rule last year. They officially allowed a second step. Of course, that means they just take a third step and it's still not called.

I agree with Disco, before a couple years ago, I don't think I ever saw traveling called, now it is called frequently

these are not the calls you're looking for..........................you can go about your business......................move along.............

Travelling and 3-second rule always occur in pairs.

Ref calls Team A for travelling. Within 2 or 3 possessions, Team B will be whistled for walking. After that, it is no longer a violation for rest of game.

People who think that traveling isn't called in the NBA anymore aren't watching complete games.

In the Spurs-Knicks game it was called several times, including on Duncan and Ginobili.

It's being called from what I see. They miss it sometimes, but they miss a lot of calls every play.

It is called:
*When a perimeter player starts a drive and picks up the pivot foot too soon. This call is always made, sometimes when there isn't even an actual travel.
*When a post player starts a move. Again, always called, sometimes without an actual travel.

It is NOT called:
*At the end of a move, whether it is a drive, pull-up, or post move.
*In the open court (ex: offensive player catches pass in fast break, defensive player is in the pth, offensive player holds ball too long while running before the first dribble)
