im a diehard Rockets fan, and I went to the AT&T Center on Saturday for the spurs-rox game. it was my first road game ever, so i dont really have anything to compare it to, but i just wanna say how impressed i was with the spurs fans. the whole building seemed like it erupted EVERY time the spurs scored. it was like each basket was the game winner, for 48 minutes straight. ive always thought the Rockets fans were great (and i still think they are) but it was different to see that kind of atmosphere at another game. it made the game very exciting (well, i guess it wouldve been more exciting had i been on the other side ha), and i enjoyed it even tho we got thumped haha

I think Spurs fans are giddy about the fact that they have at least 1 more year of potential championship contention, after having pretty much left the Spurs for dead. You don't realize what you have until its gone, and after an ugly and unprecedented 4-game sweep out of the playoffs last year, the Tim Duncan era appeared to be pretty much gone. Now all of a sudden it is back, and everyone in SA is pleasantly surprised.

The most unbelieveable part is that there is no question, in my mind, that Timmy has slipped in a major way since '07, yet the Spurs currently own their best ever record at this point in a season. Hard to explain.

So, basically, everyone is waiting for the curtain to drop, and game after game, when it doesn't happen, people get more and more pumped.

Pretty much what he said. I admit I was in the category of people that thought that window was just about closed and didn't have high hopes for this season. But I'm very glad I was wrong.

The Spurs are depending on Duncan less and less, with more of the weight falling on Parker/Ginobili and the big role players. But that's not to say Duncan still isn't a huge part of the team. He'll always be the leader of the team, if not the top scorer.

Tim is doing pretty much exactly what David Robinson did. He's letting the younger guys take the reigns more, and playing the role he fits best at this time.

The main difference is that Tim is much healthier in the twilight of his career compared to Robinson. But just like Dave in his later playing days, Tim can turn it on any given night and burn some teams pretty badly.

Actually mass, that has how it has been for every spurs game I have ever been to, and I have been going for almost 30 yrs now.

Well if you say so. I've noticed an uptick in the excitement level that hasn't been there for a few years. I've only been going to the games for 25 years though, and the games are getting fewer and further between. I'll defer to you on that.

The atmosphere is hit or miss these days. The weekend games are usually good but our crowd can get lazy and some say "spoiled" with all the championships. Like stated above though, having this record has brought new life to the fans and hopefully they can keep it up. If you really want to see it rocking then check out a playoff game, Spurs fans get up for that. Especially if it's Dallas or LA.

btw I went to the Spurs/Rockets game in Houston last season and was pretty disappointed tbh. Arena was filled with empty seats and pretty dead even though Houston won the game.

Also, Which stadium do you like better overall? AT&T Center or Toyota Center? jw

I really need to go to one. Hopefully this season.

Glad you had fun at the game despite the score.

A SPURS game at the Hemisphere Arena was something to behold...

i gotta go with Toyota Center. its really hard for me to explain why, because i thought the AT&T Center was really "neat" for lack of a better word. i like the more open spaces of Toyota's main concourses. I didn't get to explore the lower level of AT&T too much, it seemed like the club level was below the entry level if i saw that correctly? the layouts are so totally different its really hard to compare.

That is for sure. Many great times in there. Saw some great players in there as well: Jordan, Bird, Kareem, Magic

The Alamodome was fun too, just for the fact that there would be 40,000 people in there for a basketball game.

Their offensive depth is absolutely insane. They have 7-8 guys that can go for 20 on any given night and nobody is surprised.

I gotta say, the AT&T Center is always rockin' if the lakers, mavs, or rox are in town. Fun arena, glad you had a good experience!

Another aspect of San Antonio fans support for the Spurs is that this is the only top level professional sports team in the city... eggs all in one basket.

Hmmmm...most other cities usually have sold out arenas regardless of the number of pro teams in the city. Bottom line is that the AT&T Center is just a great place to watch a game and the fans don't sit around like they live in Hollywood.

Are you light-bulbing your comment because
a) you think it's brilliant insight,
b) you think it contradicts what I wrote, or
c) you think I was bashing San Antonio?

I completely agree with this. Many citizens of San Antonio are enthusiastic supporters of the Spurs and there's a great atmosphere surrounding the team-- be it at games, the office water cooler, wherever.

Talking building only, the Toyota Center is a far better arena than the AT&T. It's nicer, more upscale and polished, and most importantly it's in a great location. SA really screwed the pooch on where they built the AT&T. I do like the Fan Zone though.

Ehh it depends what you are looking for. The Toyota Center is probably nicer and better well kept and there is no question that it is in a MUCH better location compared to the AT&T Center. Saying that, the atmosphere is far superior at the at&t center, the layout of the seats is better also and by that I mean there are more "good" seats available for sale. Also, the big one for me is the bars and areas at the arena. The big porch on the main level and the huge bar is awesome and the huge smoking section with the band and big screen out there is great compared to that jack daniels crappy ass bar at the toyota center.

pros and cons to both I guess but I'll take a game at the AT&T Center any day.

Hey, Jack. I think I lightbulbed my comment due to the insight thought regarding your comment about the Spurs being the only game in town. And I agree with your comment that the fans just seemed to always be enthusiastic about the Spurs even during bad times which seems to make them different from other NBA fans. So I would say that we are on the same page and probably could have used a different icon.
