Big time win for LA over Boston.

After only six tries, the Lakers have finally joined the exclusive group of Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indiana, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, New Orleans, New York, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, Toronto, Utah, and Washington as one of the only 26 teams to have a win over a top five in the league opponent this year.

prolly would've been better to lose it, right?

As the two time defending champs I don't see much need to get overexcited about a regular season win.

Boston also has some pretty signficant injuries on their front line, where LA already has a major advantage against anyone they play.

Still tough to go into Boston and come out a winner though. As the previous poster pointed out only 3 other top-5 WC teams did it before LA.

historically, that's pretty obvious. the lakers have been around for much longer and play in arguably the best basketball market in the nation (major city with no NFL team to compete with). and then there's the small matter of them being worth a hell of a lot more. you're comparing the cowboys to the ravens.

but if we're talking the past decade, it's a lot more even than you'd like to admit. the lakers have won one more championship in this era, but they also had a couple of pretty mediocre to straight up crappy seasons. the spurs, on the other hand, have not only made the playoffs every year since 99, but they've always finished with pretty good records even in their "down" years.

as for the head to head, well it's been pretty intense to say the least. there's been some incredible series and both teams have eliminated the other.

so in this era, i'd say the lakers are fairly even with the spurs.

Congrats on picking such a great team to jump on the bandwagon for. You must be bursting with pride that a team from across the country from your home town and every where you have ever lived has done so well since before you were born.
