Do they have enough to challenger the Celts, Heat, or Bulls? Billups, Fields, Melo, Amare, Turiaf starting but the bench is weak.

Ha, that's laughable. They have enough to challenge Atlanta for the right to get owned by Orlando in the 1st round.

Good enough to get to the 2nd round maybe ECF depending on matchups.

Their defense will be <<<<<<<<<<< Chi, Mia, Bos, Orl

Their offense will be either the same as or marginally better than any of those teams, best case scenario. That equals loss.

New York is relevant again - the NBA is more entertaining when the Knicks are good. But they won't ever win anything with that core.

The Knicks gave up a lot of assets to get this done, BUT didn't take on any bad contracts. Chauncey can be cut after this season. They should be able to build around Melo+Amare+low paid trash for a year or 2 until DWill or CP3 comes aboard.

The Nuggets are going away for a few years. Good trade for them long term.

At the end of the day it's more fun when big trades are made instead of stalemate.

As a part of the deal, Denver will get Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks' 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash while Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman will head to New York, according to the Denver Post.

As part of the deal, the Knicks will send Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry and $3 million to Minnesota, in exchange for Corey Brewer. The Knicks have not yet decided whether to keep Brewer or flip him in another deal.

Just read Devin Harris may be coming back to the Mavs as part of a side-trade to this trade.

The Nuggets want to reroute two Knicks to the New Jersey Nets as part of a separate deal, including Felton and Mozgov, sources said. The Nets badly want to get rid of Devin Harris and have discussed a three-team with Denver and Dallas that would send Harris to the Mavericks, and bring Felton and Mozgov to New Jersey, sources said.

Why would Dallas need yet another point guard with JKidd, JJ, and Roddy sharing time?

And this trade is not good for the Knicks. It's not a good fit at all, especially in that system. The Knicks had a good young crop of talent that they just sent packing to bring in one guy, and it's not going to work.

Knicks ownership just completely ruined what Donnie Walsh had worked his butt off to achieve. Rumor is Isaiah Thomas will soon be back there to aid in the collapse of the rebuild and Walsh will be out the door.

The knicks got better because they got the two best players in the deal. Chemistry might take some time to work itself out, but they definitely improved their team for the future and acquired a super star in his prime without giving one up.

I'm not disappointed to see Carmello head East.

It will be interesting to watch their game tonight with a skeleton team and additional trades still possible.

They'll probably win.

By the time CP3 or DWill are FA's, the Knicks won't have any cap room to sign them. The only reason the Miami big 3 worked is because all 3 took less money to make it work. Amare and Melo are both on Max contracts, that will be larger when the PG's are available.

The best the Knicks could hope for would be to pump someone's value up enough to do a S&T, but even then, it's a VERY slim chance that either of those teams would bite on a deal like that.

I haven't been following this whole trade saga that much so maybe someone can answer a question I have. If Carmelo was so insistent on going to the Knicks, why did the Knicks give up so much in a trade to land him?? Why not wait until the offseason to sign him as a FA?

exactly.

if there is anything ive learned about the NBA is that more then any league its a superstar driven game.

You can always be able to find role players and now New York has got two legit superstar players.

They probably wont be that great this year because they cant play defense.....but Amare, Billups and Carmelo Anthony are three players you can build a team around.

Boston "gave up" their future and young players to acquire Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.......I think its worked out for them.

If the cap for the max contract drops significantly like many are anticipating in the new CBA, that won't be the case anymore.

-Derron Williams to New Jersey/Brooklyn/Jay-Z's backyard
-Aldridge and Roy to Washington
-Durant and Westbrook to Philly
-Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker to Cleveland

New CBA, If Melo waits he risks losing the 65 mil that he gets under this agreement. If NY doesn't take him now, NJ would have given him the 65 mil extension. He wants to play for NY but he didn't want to lose the 65 mil either.

Pilot - thanks.

So, do you NJ was just posturing to force NYK into a trade that weakens their team? Maybe DEN-NJ leaked a potential deal to the press to make NYK nervous and give up a lot.

Who needs a great fit when you have Carmelo and Amare in the front court, and a veteran leader like Billups running the show? Also, Landry Fields has a huge upside and will be very good. Roger Mason and Toriaf round out a decent 6-man rotation. If NY can manage to get there hands on a few other serviceable players, they will be very good this year and potentially great next year in D'Antoni's system.

The biggest winner currently playing for the Knicks is Roger Mason. He seems to have fallent out of favor, mainly because he has sucked lately, but will probably get some good minutes now just because of the short rotation. If he can manage to hit some shots, he'll likely have lots of opportunities with teams now keyed in on Amare and Carmelo.

By the time CP3 and DWill and others are available, Amare will have blown out his knee again. He's getting a ton of minutes on them now, and he is going to get even more for a while.

However, as I heard on the radio, whatever first round matchup they get for the playoffs will be an exciting series to watch.

I'm glad melo had the decency not to make this whole thing a spectacle like lebron "prima donna" james. i used to actually like the guy, but "the decision" and charging people exorbitant sums of money to come to a birthday party removed all respect i had for him.

Billups is almost 35, so he isn't that great of a get in the long-term. He's got maybe 2 years left after this season if his minutes are managed well.

The core of the team is Stoudemire and Anthony. It's unlikely they keep Brewer because he doesn't fit well with that core. Turiaf is a scrub. If they can turn another trade and get a solid center or SG, then it might be looking better for them.

As of right now, these guys are maybe 5th best in the east.

Good trade for the Knicks. Stars are hard to come by and they now have two. I'm surprised they didnt have to give up more picks.. but I guess they assumed they weren't worth much.

If Billups can play 2 more years, that might work out quite well for the Knicks as that is when CP3 and D-Will become available.

Also, I see on the rumors that the Clips are trying to get Danillo Gallinari.
