Just watched Blake Griffin's game back in Oklahoma against Kevin Durant. Good game early, the Thunder took it over late. Durant versus Blake got me thinking about a few things. Here are some thoughts:

We've been very lucky to see some great, great players play at Reed. I mean these guys aren't just legitimate pros, they have HOF type potential. In hindsight, I feel silly for criticizing Turg tactics or questioning a player's positioning. Theres nothing that Turg or the players at the time could have done to stop Blake or Durant or even Michael Beasely; it was just a mismatch (and yes they've improved, but they were already SO much better than everyone else in college). I'll keep this in mind next time Perry Jones torches us; its not us its him.

Secondly, isn't it possible that Blake versus Kevin becomes the NBA's next great rivalry. They are the same size, with different positions and roles, but I'd expect them to start guarding each other as they get more experience. Furthermore, how interesting does this rivalry become if Blake gets on the Mavericks? Thats the last thing a Rockets fan like me wants to see, but Houston versus OKC just doesn't generate the same degree of interest. And with Cuban its not out of the question.

Kevin Durant lost by 18 points the only time he played at Reed... he shot 42.5 percent over his career against the Ags in the 2007 season. And Billy G was the coach that year.

That game where he and Law went at in Austin was absolutely amazing.

Throw Lamarcus Aldridge in there. He may not have the numbers or the offensive game of those guys, but by the time they are all done he could be every bit as good. I was skeptical when he was at t.u. because he was never all that impressive to me at that time.

When at A&M I saw Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups, Kelvin Kato, Desmond Mason, Marcus Fizer, Tony Battie and others. Kato was the most dominant player I've ever seen play (saw him at G. Rollie), but it was mainly at the defensive end. A&M probably had zero points in the paint when he came to town.

All the most impressive offensive performances I have ever seen at Reed were by an Aggie, Bernard King. That dude could absolutely ball, and it was his dumb luck that he was around just prior to the BCG era. Billy could have got him drafted I think.
