This sucks, glad we have a decent lead on the league because were going to need it now.

Crap. This is just Pop's evil genius way of letting the Mavs take over the #1 seed so the Spurs won't have a big target on their back.

george hill is more than adequate especially with the amount of point manu will run. also could be a good chance to get gary neal more minutes

Not good.

Fortunately, George Hill is the best all-around backup PG in the league.

Also helps that James Anderson is back and starting to get back into form. Neal should be back soon from concussion.

Splitter should make it back before Parker.

Most important thing for the Spurs is for everyone else to stay healthy.

Hmm... figured Ginobili or Duncan would be the first one to miss significant time.

Wait, what? A Spurs player injured?? This doesn't sound right?? They're human!

Never wish injury on any player, but finally hearing that the Spurs are human was a relief, it was uncanny how no fluke tweaks or anything had occurred to virtually anyone this year.

They've been dealing with significant injuries to role players already this year. Anderson missed most the year. Splitter has been out for a month now. Neal is going to end up missing a week or two here. Bonner missed a couple or several weeks just recently.

Spurs just need to be healthy by the start of April and they'll be fine.

I'm guessing you don't keep track of the Spurs at all. Just because they have been winning doesn't mean they haven't had injuries.

Name - games missed
Splitter - 18
Neal - 2
Hill - 6
Bonner - 16
McDyess - 5
Anderson - 47
Parker - 8 to 16, projected

There are coach's decisions here and there (especially for Splitter), but it's not like this has been some freakish injury free season. The Spurs are just deep enough to keep winning while resting the big names a lot.

That list is impressively small. They have had injuries but it's been uncannily minimal.

Care to show us a team that had a normal level of injuries?

i read somewhere that all 5 spurs starts and their first 2 players off the bench (im guessing the bench players getting the most PT), havent missed a game this year.

judging from that list it might be right.

the spurs have avoided the most injuries in the nba by that stat

Kobe
Gasol
Fisher
Odom
Brown
Artest

All played 61 games. The only Laker rotational player who hasn't is Mr. Glass Andrew Bynum.

7 of the Spurs 12 permanent players have missed games due to injury this season. I'd like to know how they've avoided all 5 starters and the first two off the bench getting injured.

The Spurs have had by far the best luck with injuries this season up to this point compared to the other top 6 teams. Parker's projected injury levels the field only a little bit. Funny to see Spurs fans pointing to benchwarmers Splitter and Anderson as proof that they have injuries too

Games missed by top 7 scorers:

San Antonio - 8 (Hill, Neal)
Dallas - 44 (Dirk, Butler, Chandler)
Lakers - 49 (Barnes, Bynum)
Boston - 50 (Shaq, Garnett, Rondo)
Chicago - 51 (Noah, Boozer)
Miami - 105 (Haslem, Miller, rest of top 7 missed at least 2 games)

Parker's injury will have minimal effect assuming he returns at full strength and Hill accepts his role without *****ing.

With Parker out they have a built in excuse for losing, but the Spurs already proved they can play with the elite teams. They have the championship experience to fall back on - there is nothing else to prove in the regular season.

They will continue to coast to the #1 seed and 65+ wins barring a complete meltdown.

Bibby is going to Miami. Corey Brewer looks to be the hot commodity now since NY is buying him out. Spurs fans over on SpursTalk are already blowing up Brewers Twitter account trying to recruit. He would be a nice addition giving us something that we don't have... a great perimeter defender.

apparently the mavs are interested as well. Don't know how he would fit in, though.

Except that it comes at the Spurs toughest stretch of the season. 2 games against Miami, 1 against LA and 1 against Dallas in the next 3 weeks. Throw in the Houston 2nd night as a trap game, and you're looking at 5 potential marks in the loss column.
For a team that has offensive lapses, losing your #2 offensive spark plug is a big deal. I'm not saying they'll melt down like Dallas did when Dirk went out, but this is certainly a major test for this team.
InternetFan02

It will be a test for the team, but in the end it doesn't matter for playoffs implications. So what if they lose to Miami and LA? Parker being out is an easy excuse, they already proved in January that they can handle a tough schedule, and they will maintain the #1 seed. Maybe they don't get to shut down the starters in early April now.

Clinching early can be bad for momentum going into the playoffs, and now there definitely won't be pressure to win 70+ games. So you could argue that Parker missing 2-4 weeks is actually better for the team long term.

If they lose their 4 big ones and one other over the next 3 weeks, I don't think anyone will concede the #1 seed. Dallas and Boston are a ways behind, but either team could get hot (Dallas already is) and go on a big streak.

San Antonio is a very solid team this year, but I believe they are a team that needs HC throughout the playoffs. That is very much in jeopardy with the loss of Parker. IMO he's the most consistent/steady performer on that team since '07, particularly at the offensive end.

It would be nice if there was a recent example of Tony Parker getting injured against Memphis and missing the bulk of the month of March due to it, wouldn’t it?

Oh wait. When the Spurs were in essentially the exact same situation last year…

Spurs went 11-4 (.733) while Tony was down. They were 39-28 (.582) the rest of the season.

Spurs beat Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Boston, Orlando, and Los Angeles during that stretch.

Manu averaged 25.5ppg during that stretch including going for 30+ against Orlando, Cleveland, and Los Angeles. He had 28 against Boston.

The only significant roster change since then is the addition of Gary Neal and removal of Bogans and Mason.

I'm more concerned about the increased wear and tear to Ginobili as he'll likely be playing more minutes and inheriting more PG responsibilities to pick up the slack. He was dinged up prior to the All Star break and his shooting suffered for it. I would have liked to see his minutes stay constant or slightly decrease by one or two (on avg.) heading into the playoffs.

I expect to see Manu sit for a few games in the very near future.

He will not like it, but if Pop is smart he will insist.
