Let's play make believe and pretend the Mavs beat Denver and were currently on a 19 game winning streak. Would it be the most underwhelming, unimpressive streak in the history of the NBA? And don't get me wrong, I love the Mavs and think they have a chance to get out of the West but usually teams that go on this kind of run are doing so in a dominant way. To me it doesnt seem like the Mavs are really doing that. Old Mavs teams would have beat the absolute **** out of teams like Indiana tonight. Maybe I am missing something.

Spurs and Rockets fans feel free to add insight.

spurs will always be king in "unimpressive win streaks"

Exactly.

Mavs are 'under the radar', but spurs could win out and it would always be about how much the other teams suck.

The Mavs' streaks impressed me more in 2007. It might be partly the result of their collapse in the playoffs, but their current streak doesn't impress me as much. They don't seem as dominant; a lot of the wins seem like they could have been losses (not usually the case in 2007).

I'm not the most objective person when it comes to the Mavs (I'm a Spurs fan and I hate the Mavericks actually), but I'm not as worried about them this year. It will be a tight series in the playoffs if we meet, like always, but I think the Spurs will win. Terry, Marion and Barea will not be as useful in the playoffs I don't think, when defensive pressure picks up (Terry is slowing down, Barea is too short to defend well, and Marion shoots from his chest).

Im a Mavs fan and I honestly have the exact same opinion.

If you look back at the 2005-06 season when the Mavs started to have some big winning streaks they were consistently blowing teams out.

Same in 2006-07.

I dont know....it really bothers me that this years Mavs cant close the door and just put teams away.

Im still pretty scared that when the playoffs come we are going to see a repeat of the last three years.

The other team will Let Dirk get his points and focus on shutting down everyone else...and every other Mavs player with shrink.

i believe the mavs average margin of victory during their last ten games is only 4 points. the spurs margin over the last ten games is over 7.

not the end all be all indicator, but that can't be ignored.

Just went back and looked at some of the streaks/runs in the 2006 and 2007 seasons and they are far and away more impressive than the one this year's team is having. In the 2006-2007 season the Mavs had runs of 12-0 and 36-2 where they were beating teams by an average of 11.5 and 12.05 PPG. In the 2005-2006 season we had a run of 22-2 where we won by an average of 11.125 PPG.

Comparing that to this season and our early season run where we went 17-1 and the current one of 18-1 and Dallas is only winning by an average of 7.84 PPG and 7.38 PPG during those runs. To further put that into the perspective the Spurs are winning by an average of 7.2 PPG over the entire course of the season.

If there is something positive here it's that Dallas has had a lot of experience in close games and they've usually come up big in those situations. But with all these close games dont be suprised if Dallas is worn out by the time the playoffs roll around.

As a Spurs fan, I haven't seen enough Mavs games to qualify as having an informed opinion. As noted above-- they've had great regular season performances in the past and then panned in the playoffs. The "new" Spurs could easily end up having this problem as well...

I guess it boils to: how much has Chandler really altered the team? They're basically the same team as last year +Chandler and -Butler. How truly good is the defense?

Quick point guards can still penetrate with ease vs. Kidd and Barea. For this reason, I think Dallas might match up better against the Lakers (and their slow PGs) than Spurs.

Looks like my concerns have already proven true. What a sh*tty ass team. Eff you Cuban, give us Jerry.

Don't worry, at some point this season, or next (probably both) you'll feel swells of hope again... just before the Mavs collapse like they always do. This is an endless cycle.

I probably shouldn't do this, but I wouldn't worry too much about losing to the Grizzlies. They're actually pretty good now (I hope the Spurs don't have to meet them in the first round). I would worry that the team I put my hopes in was the Mavericks, however. That will never end well.

One bad loss and that's how you react? Please.

Not really worried about the loss to Memphis. I will be worried if we pair up with them in the first round, seeing as it's shaping up to be an 07 GSW situation where they have owned us this year in the regular season (0-3 I believe). Quietly, Captain Unclutch Dirk came up with a basket with <10 seconds in a 1-possession game (again).

I have to hope that Chandler will be the necessary defensive dimension in the paint that we have been lacking. Problem is the Mavericks can never come up with a reliable #2 or #3 scoring option in the post-season. JET usually disappears, Caron is hurt, and the rest of the offense is a scoring crapshoot. I was hoping Beaubois was going to fill that role but his injury set back his progression.

Expectations are pretty low this year honestly.

Lets talk about the three losses and one win against Memphis.

The first loss came in the second game of the year when the Mavs were still jelling. Obviously when they got the chemistry going they went on an incredible streak until Dirk and Caron got hurt.

The second was an easy Mavs win with both teams healthy and a month into the season.

The third was without Dirk and Caron when the team was down because of the injuries.

The fourth was when Chandler was out and the Grizz got sixty six points in the paint and that would never happen with him in there.

Not a big deal and if they play it wont go more than five games.
