Kobe clearly belongs in the discussion of best all time SG's but neither he, nor anyone else, is anywhere close to Jordan. BTW, I was one of the few people who never really liked Jordan as a player. I respected him immensely but never rooted for him. At his peak though he made it look like everyone else in the NBA was in high school.

BTW, I think MJ is the kind of guy that isn't happy and never will be. He probably has few if any real friends and he isn't a good human being. Life after the NBA is hell for him. I think Jordan got to be God for a little while and will never get to be that again and will never make the adjustment.

The basketball team wears Team Jordan gear. He's the equipment supplier basically. What Phil Knight is to Oregon.

Air jordan athletes have to stay on the air jordan brand, not nike.
There is a conference.

If nike is toyota, air jordan is lexus.

I really don't think it is this simple.

An alumnus offering ANY kind of performance-based incentive to athletes at his alma mater is a pretty slippery slope, particularly when the implication is that other Nike sponsored schools will not necessarily receive the same benefit. I don't have the NCAA rulebook memorized but I doubt any of you guys do either.

It isn't like anything will come of it. I'm just sayin'.

the contract is, UNC can get whatever Nike provisions them. If Nike chooses to provision them Air Jordans due to Jordan's influence, that's not a violation

It is if players at UNC are given special performance-based "perks" that are not available to players at other schools. That is a clear-cut recruiting advantage provided by an alumnus that is in a position to deliver the goods. You can't tell me there isn't at least some gray in there. From an ethical standpoint there is a conflict of interest as Jordan is essentially an employee of Nike.

So, Jay-Z, minority owner of the Nets, can get dinged for congratulating a team with which he has no relation; but MJ, majority owner of the Bobcats and corporate spokesperson for Nike, is "in the clear" despite implying that players from his alma mater will be compensated with "anything they want" from Nike if they win?
