Since Artis Gilmore is finally going to get into the Hall of Fame I wonder if the Spurs will retire his #53.

Since he is a Hall of Famer and spent a good number of years it would a great way to honor his years with the franchise...

Gilmore played his best years for other franchises and spent less than 1/2 his career with the Spurs.

It would be like the Rockets retiring Clyde Drexler or Charles Barkley's number.

I will never understand the retiring of jersey numbers.

By all means, hang a Gilmore jersey in the rafters. But let anybody else wear his number. It wouldn't be the end of world to have two players with same number. I could live with a moratorium on the particular number for a few years.

Yeah Johnny Moore was a bit of a mystery. He had pretty nice assist and steals numbers, but nothing warranting number retirement.
