So what do you think?

If they match up against the Blazers in the 1st round (which looks likely); they lose to there 5th different team in so many years in the playoffs......and a 1st round exit 4 out of the 5 years.

What's crazy is that when the day started, they had a mathematical shot at taking the #2 seed in the conference....and yet no one here in Dallas seems to care. We all know what's coming, so it's tough to get too excited.

The Mavs are an enigma...with the team they have now, it basically comes down to whether or not JET can play second fiddle....

That's always been the problems with the Mavs, they're a very mercurial team. They can just as easily win a playoff series against a favorite as they can lose it against a scrub.

Dirk was my favorite player growing up, and I almost died when they traded Nash. But when they traded for Kidd, I renounced the team and moved on.

Having Chandler/Haywood is a big plus for them, if Haywood decides to take his diaper off for the game, but forgive me if I am not confident in a team w/ a washed up SF in Marion and nobody else to man the PG-SF position taller than 6'4. I don't know, I like Cuban, he definitely revived the organization from a zombie like state, but damn...you have to wonder what kind of difference Caron Butler would have made.

A Kobe Bryant 3 pointer against the Kings tonight will probably keep the Mavs out of the 2nd round again. The Kings could have fouled with 5 seconds left and a 3 point lead. Wow.

The Mavs could have beaten this NO team without David West. Instead they get a tough Portland team who will likely bounce them again. Even if they get past Portland they wouldn't have home court against LA.

I read that the Mavs franchise has lost in the first round as a #1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 seed. So this is the year to add a first round loss as the 3 seed, and then maybe complete the full set next season as an 8 seed. Thanks Lakers.

lol. its so funny.

i used to be a die hard mavs fan, and will still defend dirk as a die hard fan for playing his heart out and his loyalty. he is very laid back superstar.

however, apathetic is the emotion i have to this mavs team. i expect them to lose in the 1st round every year because JET is a loser in the playoffs, Jason Kidd is on viagra, and Howard/Butler/Marion are all over the hill posers.

I somehow wish they would blow this team up and dirk would retire gracefully.

Damn, I guess I'll be the lone sunshine-pumper. I love the Mavs and think they can take care of business.

Everyone always says Cuban should blow up the Mavs.

Terry and Dirk are the only players left from the Finals team.

Probably because they mean "blow up the current team", not "blow up the last Dallas team that did anything".

How many teams have completely blown up their team and have had success?

I'm not advocating blowing up the team, so you'll have to ask someone else.

My bad then, I was just trying to think of a team that has done this recently.

2004-05 Miami Heat.

they blew up up their entire team and made a completely different team centered around Wade and Shaq

and then won it all.

Im with others. Last years piss poor effort in the playoffs has really jaded me on this Mavs team.

I just want then to get out of the first round.

But Im not excited.

Everytime folks chalked up the Mavs as winning a first round series they seem to lose, so now that everyone is ready writing them off the Mavs'll win.

Spurs have had very different teams for three if their for titles. Duncan is the only common thread on all of them.

I don't think anyone "blows up" a team with the idea that they'll win a championship the following year.

With that said, the 03-04 Lakers are a great example of a team that got "blown up" and was back in the hunt 4 years later. The '05 Baby Bulls is another decent example, although it remains to be seen whether they'll win a title. Deng is really the only contributing player left from that team.

Otherwise there aren't a lot of good examples. I felt like the "blow up" the Mavs did when they cut Nash and Finley loose over the span of a couple years ultimately made them better (although adding Dampier was more/less a neutral move).

I don't consider a team truely being blown up when they keep their best player. Maybe just my definition though.

Yes but other than 3 of the same all-stars and 1 HOFer, they are drastically different each time.

would not classify the Spurs team as ever having to blow their team up.

changing out Oberto wasn't exactly a huge loss

Parker was benched repeatedly in the 03 run because he couldn't handle it. kerr and speedy claxton had to get all the meaningful minutes. Remember kerr single handedly deflating the mav s?

Manu averaged like 8ppg in 03. Don't think he was even a top 5 option.

Spurs had after robinson started to regress, the spurs went through steve smith, derek anderson, and stephen jackson before manu and parker were viable second and third options.

Spurs never blew up the team by getting rid of everyone in one summer, but they changd out the whole team pretty quickly. after 03, pop even tried to get rid of parker.
