Game 1, round 1. Lol @ you for thinking that was a pressure situation.

After numerous first round losses and even the announcers made mention of Dallas having the most pressure in all the first round series because of that, being down and in position to lose Game 1 at home was a huge situation for Dirk to step up like that. You not getting that puts your own manhood into question.

I find it interesting that they were celebrating rather excessively after the game was over. Ok so maybe I was just watching Cuban's reaction, but still... act like you know you were going to win not like you were hoping to win. I saw a better Dallas team than in the past, but I just don't see the swagger of a #3 seeded team.

Cuban gets that excited after every win, should watch more Mavs games.

I've never seen a 3-seed in the West so disrespected by everyone before the playoffs even started. They lost Butler early in the season and were still in position for the 2-seed on the last day of the regular season. Doubt them at your own risk.

Like River said...Cuban gets that excited in the middle of the regular season against a no name team on a ho hum night. That kind of passion is what brought the Mavs back from the dead as a franchise.

If the only response you can come up with is "game 1 round 1 lolololol" you haven't been paying attention.

Averaging 26 points and 10 rebounds for a career in the playoffs should remove any smack talk from the hater's mouth. The guy delivers when he needs to. It's just a question of whether he'll get help from the guards consistently

If you don't think Dirk's clutch, you're either an idiot or a racist.

Dirk, according to commentator last night, is in the Top 10 or 15 all time NBA players.

DAMN!!!! those stats ARE impressive. must be nice having all that hardware to go with it.

say, what does the "26 points, 10 boards" trophy look like, anyway?

He's one of only 4 players to average 25 and 10 in the playoffs. He doesn't have a ring but when you're in the company of guys like Elgin Baylor and the Dream, you remember that basketball is a team game and the reason you don't have a ring is probably not because of you.

anti-Dirk folks love to point to individual games to show he's not clutch. guess timmah, parker and Kobe aren't clutch anymore.

Please consider who which players and coaches each player has had.

Ginobili, Parker, Robinson > Any player Dirk has ever had.

Dirk is a great player that will certainly be considered a Top 50 NBA player. A 7-footer with his range and abilities is incredibly rare and he has consistently put up numbers year after year, including stats in the playoffs (NBA titles aside). However, he will never be a top 10-15 player if he doesn't win a ring. It's a shame that Wade, Shaq and the NBA refs bounced the Mavs in 2006. That one title would have gone a long way to validate Dirk's status.

Same goes for other sports. I'd take Brady or Montana any day over Marino.

For the record, I am not a Spurs or Mavs fan.

Oh and the comments above such as Bowen >> Malone are stupid. Noone on this thread has stated that. Simple's point (at least how I interpreted it) is that when comparing top 30 NBA players, NBA titles will separate the elite players from the great ones. And I agree with this statement.

Duncan is an elite PF. Barkley, Malone and Dirk are great PFs.
awinlonghorn

most of your argument makes sense, but the elite over great measured on rings alone is ridiculous.

if this was an individual sport, then yes. bball is a team sport that has a lot to do with who's coaching and the team around you.

Duncan is an elite PF. But to say malone and barkley are not elite is idiotic.

And simple did make the assertion that the only thing that matter is rings and i am stating that rings are a huge indicator of success but not the only one.

Gary peyton was a great guard, but he is not elite because he rode the coattails of wade and shaq to a title

Barkley and Malone played in the Michael Jordan era.

Let's see if Duncan wins titles with Michael Jordan in his prime.

No, I'm pretty sure they point to his team's performance in the playoffs.

Dirk is a HOF, championships or not. He's been great in the playoffs. Unfortunately, it's not good enough for an NBA title yet. Then again, people like Karl Malone and Patrick Ewing didn't get it either, and I don't think any less of them (like Dan Marino in the NFL).

If Dirk averages 20 a game for the next 3 years (very likely), he's #7 all time in scoring behind Kareem, Malone, Jordan, Wilt, Shaq, and Kobe... haters gonna hate.
