I thought he did a decent job for what he had to work with in Houston.

This is going to come back and haunt them.

I think part of the problem is that Morey is deemed a genius by certain members of the media (and by the sheeple that worship them). Therefore, when the Rockets finish behind a franchise that is owned by the NBA, and a franchise that is mocked by the media, someone has to take a fall.


I think it is worth pointing out, however, that the Rockets would have been at least a 6th seed in the East, and R.A. would still have a job.



The Rockets maybe have one player that would be considered in the top 2 at his position in the Southwest. Not sure any of the remaining starters would be in the top 3 at their position.

Who do they go for now? Adelman did a good job with a roster full of rotation players, and did a good job considering the chunk of salary that Yao was eating up.

Does anybody know of any decent coaches that are available, or do you think Morey has some kind of Excel spreadsheet to pinpoint the next young coaching whiz?

I trust Darryl more than any coach. In the NBA a GM is infinitely more valuable than a Coach. BUT I do question the move. If there are great coaches just lying around waiting for jobs, then I understand it, but it doesn't seem like you can do any better than Adelman at the moment.

That being said, I think a certain coach who we are all incredibly familiar with SHOULD be considered the job. This someone is a person who we are all convinced is just waiting for the next GREAT college job, but that we often forget has NBA experience and connections.

The perceived strength of the coach is coaching and the perceived weakness is recruiting; a problem that doesn't matter for an NBA coach. This particular coach has GREAT defenses and poor offenses. The Rockets strengths and weaknesses are opposite of his expertise, allowing him to concentrate on improving the team defensively.

Eh. Good coach. Not a great situation for him. He said it a couple of weeks ago: he came to coach Yao and Tracy, not Scola and Battier. Plus the trades, and him not having a lot of input. It was time to go.

Now, that's all well and good, but they ain't finding a better option out there.

Dumb dumb dumb. Hopefully this was more of an Adleman move and not rockets. This guy deserves at least one year of planning without worrying about the chinaman. HOF coach......smh

Adelman is a good coach, but not for the team the way it has evolved. First of all, the team's defense was awful this year. Second of all, Adelman is terrible about integrating young, unproven players.

Adelman is a good coach for a veteran team ready for a run, not for a team still being assembled and seeking its identity.

Miami should hire Rick.

Rockets don't have the pieces to contend for the title any time soon and I doubt Adelman wanted to stay around for that.

I doubt Phil Jackson could have even been successful with what Rick was given his last 4 years.

I was really impressed with Adleman's ability to make something out of a roster that was completely hamstrung by Yao's contract, but his complete lack of anything resembling a defense will never win a championship with the way the NBA is today. So in that regard, I'm not that sad to see him go. To be fair though, I'm not sure if anyone could coach a good defense when you have Kevin Martin playing a significant amount of minutes.

I appreciate everything Adelman did for the organization, and taking into consideration what he had to work with he did a damn good job!

The Rockets should have probably done a little more to convince him to stay, but with 4 years under his belt and no sign of improvement I think its safe to say he had something to do with wanting to leave

I am okay with this. He was dead set on his rotation with little room to wiggle somebody else playing time and his teams never stressed defense.

He deserves credit for getting us as far as he could for the roster given to him, but still, I think this is for the best.

And to clarify like the poster above, he was NOT fired. He wanted out, and Morey had no reason to retain him.

Like I said, I am satsified that he is gone.

If Morey is unhappy with our finish the last 2 years, let's wait for the next 10. This move by Morey (no, it wasn't mutual, Rick would have stayed if not for Morey's hard-head) will put the Rockets in the cellar. Do not pass Go, do not collect any ticket revenue.

This is a horrible move. What free agent would want to come here now? What free agents will we lose on the current team. Ugh!

Morey and Alexander knew this when they hired him. They wanted a team that would put points on the board and that's why Van Gundy was let go.

And to be fair, it's hard to emphasize defense when you have Chuck Hayes at 6'6" playing center, slow-footed Luis Scola at PF, no defense playing Kevin Martin at SG, and an undersized PG in Aaron Brooks/Kyle Lowry.

^^^^ along with a starting SF (bench player on any other team) who doesn't even know how to spell defense.

Has Rick Barnes removed his name yet?

Adelman is one of the top 5 coaches in the league. Look what he's accomplished with what he's had to work with.

Any other names being thrown around in Houston?

Doubt they really start looking until more playoffs are over. Too many coaches still working for their current teams to get any sort of decent interview pool.
