I've said for 2 years straight now that, as long as Matt Bonner plays a significant role on this team, the Spurs are not contenders. His numbers during the regular season did not impress me this year, or any other year.
A lot of you think its because he shrivels. It isn't. It is because you don't get wide-freakin'-A open looks in the playoffs like you do in the regular season. Bonner is deadly if: 1) He is set up perfectly for about 10 seconds before the ball comes to him, 2) He receives the pass directly at chest level without bobbling it, and 3) Nobody is anywhere near him for 10' when he releases. If those three things don't happen, it ain't going in. You can forget about the guy ever making a "step to the left and pop" type of shot.
It just so happens that, in the playoffs, somebody's always got a hand in your face. In Bonner's case, that's all anyone has ever had to do to shut him down.
