Lakers in 5

Things to keep me interested:

Will Chandler prove that he is worth a big contract even as he is pushed around by Bynum?

Will Dirk have at least 1 pantheon level performance?

Will Kidd make 40% of his open 3s and keep TOs down so I can justify his staying on the team?

Will Caron Butler make a comeback? If so will he play so badly that the Mavs won't be tempted to re-sign him to some horrible long term deal?

Will the Phil/Cuban/Artest media battles be entertaining?

Can the Mavs keep it close enough at Staples in at least 1 game and see Kobe vs Dirk in crunch time?

If the series is half as entertaining as the 1988 WCF then I'll be happy:

Mavs/Lakers 1988 Highlights:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOqjGCO3RpM

Most of that series is on youtube. This is a great highlight real with 80s style music and voiceover.

Home team won every game. Game 4 in Reunion was epic. I'm sure Cuban was in the front row with his computer buddies and his bad hair. If internet message boards existed in the 80s then Cuban would have been the greatest Mavs troll ever.

My favorite part is the 3:30 mark where Sam Perkins clotheslines Byron Scott in mid air as he attempts a layup. Perkins was ejected and suspended, 5 players were ejected in the scuffle, and the refs took over and awarded fouls to every touch the rest of the series. Oh wait, none of that really happened? Byron Scott jumped back up and inspired his teammates and the rest of the series was a great physical battle? No one was suspended. There wasn't a national outrage over the thuggish Mavericks? That is exactly what I'm talking about whenever I complain about how the modern NBA is ruined by whining to the league by fans and players over hard fouls. In the 80s the players were allowed to settle things on the court for the most part.

Another interesting footnote. They show Aguirre holding his injured hand and sitting out at the end of game 7. This was very controversial in Dallas - how could the star player quit on his team over a hurt hand? The nest season Aguirre became even more of a malcontent and was traded to the Pistons for Adrian Dantley. The Mavs went on a gradual decline into mediocrity and despair. Aguirre was hated in Dallas from then on and that's why he hasnn't had his number retired. All we have is Ro Blackman and Brad Davis lol

That must be made up. The Mavs didn't exist until about 10 years ago.

If I had to guess, i'd say Lakers in 7.

And I'd just like to say for the record that it is completely ridiculous that the NBA doesn't re-seed after the first round. You tell me what the point of the regular season is if the records don't matter for **** after the 1st round. Dallas should be hosting OKC, and the Lakers should have drawn the easy matchup against the Grizz (if they can manage to hold off the Spurs).

LA in 6. Mavs will win one in LA and one at home.

Obama is all for reseeding, it's the fair thing to do.

Screw that, if the Mavs want to be the best they have to beat the best. And, quite frankly, the team that wins their previous series to move on IS the best at this point of the season.

88 Mavs probably was the best Mavs team ever and still didn't win ... Harper, Aguirre, Blackman, Perkins, Tarpley

MW03:

Records do matter after the first round. The best team still has the home court advantage. Also, your approach in effect penalizes the lower seed for breaking through.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

What? I am fairly certain that Obama would be interested in robbing the rich and powerful of their earned place as the highest seed by pitting the lowest seeds against each other for parity's sake.

It is particularly week here because this bogus policy is costing Dallas a home series. Los Angeles and Dallas had better regular season records than OKC and Memphis. Dallas and Los Angeles should get home series.

I suppose it's all moot if SA comes back and the 1 draws the 4 while the 2 plays the 3. Still, as things look today, Dallas should be hosting OKC and Los Angeles should be hosting Memphis.

Dallas had a better season than OKC. Dallas should get another home series.

The lower seed that breaks through is going on the road, regardless. It doesn't matter if it's to Los Angeles or to OKC.

And I'm not *****ing about this because I don't want the Mavs to play the Lakers. If anything, I'm pumped to watch Gasol and Nowitzki battle all series long. The fact of the matter is that to get a championship, you're going to have to play some phenomenal teams. No point in worrying about who you draw and when, because there are no bonus points awarded for making it to the next round if you don't win the whole thing.

Also, I'm not sure OKC is that much easier a match up for the Mavs anyway.

What I do know is that Dallas plays better at home. Dallas had better records than two of the likely 4 teams remaining in the West. Dallas should get the benefit of their regular season record and start Round 2 at home. Period.

Real men don't wear another man's jersey. Then again, Simplebay has a blow-up Kobe doll so it would be fitting to see him in a Kobe jersey.

You'll have to be more specific. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a fat Asians in Kobe jersey in Los Angeles.

Is the Lake Show really playing good basketball right now? NO ONE will pick the Mavs to beat them (90% of mavs fans included), but the Mavs beat a much better team in the first round in the same amount of games. To be honest I could see the Lakers winning in 5 or 7, but before the games start the sliver of hope is to get a split in the first two. IF the blue shoed mavs can do that, this would be an epic series (from a mavs perspective) the rest of the way!!

If the Mavs would have played better in the regular season to get the 2 seed, MW03 wouldn't even bring this up. So that shosw that the regular season is important.

I still believe, that when we lost caron and dirk, we were playing the best basketball in the league. I think we are playing really well right now, and wish that we had caron in the lineup going into this series.

oh boo hoo, punishing the lower seed for breaking through...

in effect you're rewarding them or having a ****ty record for 6 months and actually trying for two weeks

that being said, Mavs in 7
