If the series is half as entertaining as the 1988 WCF then I'll be happy:
Mavs/Lakers 1988 Highlights:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOqjGCO3RpMMost of that series is on youtube. This is a great highlight real with 80s style music and voiceover.
Home team won every game. Game 4 in Reunion was epic. I'm sure Cuban was in the front row with his computer buddies and his bad hair. If internet message boards existed in the 80s then Cuban would have been the greatest Mavs troll ever.
My favorite part is the 3:30 mark where Sam Perkins clotheslines Byron Scott in mid air as he attempts a layup. Perkins was ejected and suspended, 5 players were ejected in the scuffle, and the refs took over and awarded fouls to every touch the rest of the series. Oh wait, none of that really happened? Byron Scott jumped back up and inspired his teammates and the rest of the series was a great physical battle? No one was suspended. There wasn't a national outrage over the thuggish Mavericks? That is exactly what I'm talking about whenever I complain about how the modern NBA is ruined by whining to the league by fans and players over hard fouls. In the 80s the players were allowed to settle things on the court for the most part.
Another interesting footnote. They show Aguirre holding his injured hand and sitting out at the end of game 7. This was very controversial in Dallas - how could the star player quit on his team over a hurt hand? The nest season Aguirre became even more of a malcontent and was traded to the Pistons for Adrian Dantley. The Mavs went on a gradual decline into mediocrity and despair. Aguirre was hated in Dallas from then on and that's why he hasnn't had his number retired. All we have is Ro Blackman and Brad Davis lol
