It's pretty easy to make a decent arguement that Derrick Rose did not deserve the MVP, but not for the reasons stated in the OP.

He averaged 3.4 turnovers per game, fourth worst in the league among starting guards and 8th worst overall. He had a 2.24 Assist/TO ratio, the worst ever for a guard who won the award.
Rose was good, but historically speaking he was maybe the worst statistical MVP of all-time. He was crowned early by the media, and the award has always been more about what team you are.
