Who cares? The MVP award is a regular season award. Lebron is a better player, but I thought that was common knowledge for anyone who's been watching basketball for more than a week. No reason to beat your chest about it.

Rose is young.

No one would dispute that Lebron James is the best player in the NBA.

But that's different than MVP. Rose was clearly the MVP this year.

Anyone who questions LeBron's clutchness (is that a word?) in tight playoff games is an idiot. He has been The Man in the 4th quarter in each of the Miami wins this series. Some of the shots he makes are just sick.

All Miami has to do is just hang around for 3 quarters then tell LeBron to do his thing in 4Q to get the win. I wonder if LeBron will guard Dirk coming down the stretch in the Finals. I wouldn't be surprised...

Steve Kerr makes the Hakeem/Robinson connection regarding the best player dominating the MVP. I guess he didn't consult Guitarsoup

I don't think there is any question that he will guard Dirk down the stretch and I also think that will be a big reason why the Heat win in 6.

Personally I think Lebron guarding Dirk favors Dallas. I guess we'll see how much he can deny Dirk off the ball like Collison did. I'm betting he can do that pretty well, but Lebron shutting down DRose is completely different.

Lebron vs. DRose: equal athleticism, much taller
Lebron vs. Dirk: much more athletic, shorter, won't be able to block Dirk's shot very often.

Also, Dallas has more than one scoring option unlike Chicago.

He's 22 years old. First time on the big stage. He works his ass off. Give him another offseason working on his jumper and a shooting guard to play beside him... I think he's gonna be ok.

LeBron will shut down Dirk in the 4th. Haslem and Bosh will hold down the german through three quarters. Dirk does not have the athleticism to score over LBJ. Collison is not James. Don't kid yourself.

Lebron is an elite perimeter defender. He morphed into a Pippen clone the last few games. But Dirk carves up the elite perimeter defenders now. They don't have the discipline to hold ground for the high post moves.

Rose is awesome and deserved the MVP. But Lebron is the best player on the planet and has been for several years now.

It doesn't matter if Dirk is taller, james is exponentially quicker, will stay with Dirk not giving him space, and his athleticism will contest Dirk's shot like it's never been contested before. Not to mention Haslem will do a good job on Dirk (2006 anyone?). Miami will outrun Dallas. No country for old men.

Doesn't take much athleticism for a 7 footer to pump fake and shoot over a 6'9 guy. He'll have the 1 foot fadeaway anytime he wants it.

Seeing as most of Dirk's game is not even based on athleticism, I'd say you have no idea what you're talking about.

However, Dirk does have the height and the fadeaway J that is literally unblockable for someone like Lebron.

I agree that Lebron probably won't be as effective on Dirk as he was on Rose. I think the toughest matchup for Dirk would be someone like Noah. Miami doesn't have any long/athletic defenders.

1. Injury trouble all year.
2. First year together; it takes awhile to learn to play together.
3. Miami is the best team in basketball, but they are not deep at all. It is hard to put up a really outstanding record with a weak bench, but the deep bench matters less in the shorter playoff run.

The good thing is we'll get to see who's right in a few days. Once Dirk gets the ball in his hand, I'm curious to see how Lebron can contest a fade-away shot from someone who's already taller than he is.

And knowing Lebron, he probably told Rose that after the game as they were walking off the court.

He and Wade are the most classless athletes in professional sports. They respect no one but themselves, it's really sad.

Just as multiple players rotated on Rose, multiple players will guard Dirk. Bosh/Haslem/Anthony and LeBron will probably be given a shot in the 4th. I think given how UD does against Dirk will decide if LeBron guards him or not come crunch time. Haslem did a serviceable job against him in 2006. You're right though, we will see very soon. Dirk has improved alot since then.
