Which team are you rooting for in this series? Can you pull for another Texas team, or are you rooting for Dallas to be kept out of the NBA title column?

I didn't root for the Mavs 5 years ago, but I'm pulling for them now. With as hard/well as he's playing now, I'm rooting for Nowitzki. I'm not a big Cuban fan, but I'd rather him win one as an owner that see Lebron win one during his first year with the new team.

With all that said, I think Miami wins (unfortunately).

I wouldn't say I'm rooting for the Mavs, but I'm rooting for Dirk.

I haven't had the massive hard on this board has had for the past few months, but I like Dirk and always have, he deserves a ring.

And I may be in the minority, but I hate Dwyane Wade more than LeBron, so that also helps.

As a Spurs fan it has been fun to see Dallas fall short year after year. With that said, I hate how this Miami team was put together even more. I will be rooting for Dallas to prevent Lebron from getting a ring.

If it wasn't for the Ribbys, Muys and the like on this board, I would have no reason not to root for the Mavs. Dirk is a good guy, has been a class act and is playing out of his mind. Cuban is entertaining and good for the sport.

I'm pulling for the Mavs. I'd like to see Dirk win it and would like to see LeBron get upset.

Though another epic Hostile/Muy meltdown would be enjoyable, I'd rather see LeBron lose than Hostile and Muy lose it. It is good to have villains in the NBA and even better when they come up just short year after year. It would give me incredible joy to see LeBron and Wade lose on their home court in game 7 of the NBA finals every year.

I am a mavs fan, but my hate for lebron and wade would lead me to root for the spurs or rockets anytime they played the heat in the regular season or finals. Dear Lord I hope dallas wins, this is likely our last chance and I am not sure if the storyline would be any sweeter.

As far as I am concerned, the doors to the bandwagon are open, and we are not checking tickets for the next two weeks. I hope we can all unite in hatred of the three stooges.

Spurs fan... and I hate Miami/Wade/Bosh/James way more than any discontent I have towards Dallas.

Also, like others have said, I would like Dirk to win one, especially if he can take down the Big 3 of the Heat. An old, bunch of veterans on Dallas taking down the "new hotness" and media darlings of the Heat would be so fun to watch.

At least Aggie fans haven't had legit MNC expectations. Low expectations, lower results...not as painful. The 00s Mavs have the greatest 10 year winning percentage in pro sports history without winning a title. It's closer to the 1985-95 Aggie Football era. Those teams had a decade of great regular seasons but couldn't close on an MNC. But at least they won the conference almost every year, won some bowl games and dominated their rivals. Imagine if the 85-95 Aggies lost every bowl game while some smaller Texas school like Baylor or TCU was winning multiple MNCs.

I want LeBron to lose more than I want Dallas to lose. I want him to lose the way I wanted Karl Malone to lose when he jumped to the Lakers (along with Gary Payton) solely to win a title, and they failed miserably in the Finals against the Pistons.

Dislike seeing Dallas sports teams win, but as long as it's not the Cowboys, it's not terrible. Plus, I'm a big fan of Jason Kidd, and yes, it would be really funny to see Stern hand Mark Cuban the trophy.

And every year the Heat don't win adds an infintesimal percentage to the chance that Gilbert's Cavs win a title before LeBron's Heat.

Man it's gotta suck to be a Houston sports fan right now. Houston Aeros consistently make the front page of the sports section of the chronicle.

Don't understand the hate for the Heat. They put 3 great players on the same team to win a championship. What is wrong with that?

because they chose the "wrong" team. most of us would be ecstatic and praise their unselfishness if they'd chosen to play for our favorite team.

there's also the "decision" aspect. that was pretty much a dick move anyway you slice it.

Jackie - I think it was more the manner they did it in, rather than choosing another team other than our favorite team.

Bill Simmons summed up perfectly my, and many fans, feelings about this. What happens when you start a pick-up game and you've got 10 guys and everyone knows that 2 or 3 of them are clearly better than everyone else? The best 2 or 3 go on opposite teams so that the game is competitive. They take the lead, they say "ok you and me are opposite". It happens pretty naturally, because competition is what makes it fun.

What lebron, dwyane, and bosh did was the equivalent of these 2 or 3 guys choosing to be on the same team for a pick-up game. It reduces the competitive element. That was what rubbed basketball fans and former players the wrong way. Anyone who's ever played so much as a pick-up game understands this, and therefore all the backlash against the heat is a projection of the violation of this core spirit of competition inside basketball fans. What these guys did was take a shortcut to win at the expense of competition, much like if the 2 or 3 best guys in your pick-up game said we're on the same team just so they could win the game. Yes winning is the goal, but if it's done at the expense of competition, it cheapens the victory.

put millions of dollars on the line and see if those same 2-3 guys split up

i think that's part of it, but i also think it is just a convenient excuse to hate them.

toronto fans knew bosh was leaving. what if lebron had told cleveland all along he was leaving? what if lebron hadn't made a spectacle out of choosing miami? do you think fans would still have a problem with it? i do...or at least fans outside of miami would.

the bottom line is that this past summer, there were a few big-time free agents and in one fell swoop, all but one fanbase instantly became "have nots" (at least as it related to those three guys). even NY and atlanta who got amare and kept johnson, felt like they were on the outside looking in.

The pickup games i play at, the best people try to feign some reason to be on the same team so they can stay on the court as long as possible (winners play the next 5 waiting). You seem to he suggesting a situation where neither team has anything at stake.

2 reasons why people hate it:

1. The Decision (just ridiculous)

2. The fact that they went to Miami. Had Bosh, James, and Wade had some love for Milwaukee or Indianapolis, or somewhere like that and decided to go there, lots of fans would be bummed out, but the negative ****storm it caused wouldn't have happened. But Miami is such a ******y city in so many people's eyes though.

Spurs Fan...I don't like either team. But, I dislike the Mavs a little less than the Heat; so, Go Dirk. Remove JET and I could actually stomach this team.

With pro teams I don't think the home state matters much, since the players are from all over and free agency frequently moves them around. With college, it's easier for me to root for another home state team b/c the kids are generally home grown.
