Basketball in Texas?

I think we all have to admit that the Spurs are definitely washed up w/ their current roster, and the Mavs are probably on their last legs as well.

What do you think will become of the Texas triangle in the future? I don't think any of the three cities are premiere FA destinations, and outside of fantastic lottery luck, how do they contend within the next decade?

There are so few franchise altering players, when you factor in the odds of landing that #1 pick and the lack of FAs willing to sign w/ Texas teams, where do you think the teams go from here?

The Spurs have a great front office in their favor, the Mavs have Cuban who is willing to spend, and the Rockets have youth and trade assets and a GM who I am confident can make the moves to secure a roster to surround a star player, although I am not sure he can land the star player to plug in around them.

There are so many "young" teams like the Thunder and Bulls ready to ascend to the throne, but if following the NBA has taught me anything, the next new best thing doesn't always pan out. I was a fan of the Blazers when they made their youth movement, and the baby Bulls when they had Gordon, Hinrich, Deng, etc....

Where do you see the Spurs/Rockets/Mavs in 5 years?

By saying that neither of the 3 cities is a FA destination you have quickly shown you are a troll. Have a nice day.

Wow.

How is it possibly trolling when I show no bias towards any team and state what each team's advantages are going forward?

Hate to break it to you moron, but the Texas triangle isn't exactly a FA mecca.

I'm more than willing to accept I'm wrong if you can show me what big name free agents have signed with Texas teams.

Oh, what's that? There aren't any? You're an idiot.

I can't wait till Dwight Howard and Deron Williams and Chris Paul all decide that Texas is where they want to play!

They're gonna put Trevor Ariza to shame!

Quick question... when was the last time one of the Texas Triangle was in a position to pursue a free agent? Last I checked, a) the Mavs have been over the cap since the late 90's, only able to offer expiring contracts and fodder for sign & trades b) the Spurs have had a core group of guys bringing them championships the last decade and havent needed to seriously pursue a marquee free agent, and b) the Rockets have been mostly hovering around the cap with little room, not to mention Yao's injuries have led to struggles which make it tough for anyone to seriously consider them a destination of late.

The last major big time free agent dealing I remember involving the Texas 3 was when Orlando put the fullcourt press on Duncan in 2000. We know how that ended up.

With all due respect, your theory is flawed. Please show evidence where guys have said they would not come to Texas. Last I checked, all 3 have top notch leadership and a willingness to spend, when it is there. Toss in no state income tax, and I bet you marguee free agents will consider the Texas teams, provided the salary cap room is there.

Please drop the "no state income tax" angle.

It never matters one bit to anything in sports.

Well said Diet. Why buy a beach house in Galveston when you can buy one in South Beach?
