A lot of the scalpers down there work in teams, so if the first person you approach doesn't have seats that are to your liking, it shouldn't be too hard for him to check with a "co-worker" and find you something you want.
The fact that you're looking for a single could go either way. You may get lucky and get a (relative) "deal" after tip-off from somebody who couldn't unload one, but you may also run into the problem of guys not being willing to break up a pair to sell you just one. If you encounter this type of resistance, it may be smart of you to keep your eye on the other people who approach the scalpers and see if you can find someone else who will go in on a pair with you.
Obviously, you need to beware the danger of paying cash for scalped tickets since that leaves no paper trail and invites potential fraud, but I assume that was a given you were already accounting for.
