Not only did they win the title, but they did it in a fashion that redeemed all of the specific meltdowns from the past. Taking down Wade's team and the way it happened made it so much sweeter. I don't care if they missed out on multiple titles - they're in the club now that is the most exclusive club in pro sports.

-Mavs blow a 13 point 4th quarter lead in game 3 2006 that would have virtually clinched the series - Miami blows a 15 point lead in game 2 that would have virtually clinched the series.

-Dirk misses a FT that would have tied it at the end of game 3 2006 - Wade misses a FT that would have tied it at the end of game 4.

-Wade dominates the clutch in 06 while Dirk is generally sub-par - Dirk dominates the 4th quarter while Wade is sub-par

-Dirk has the worst series of his career and takes a ton of criticism against Golden State 2007 - Lebron has the worst series of his career and takes a ****-ton of criticism

-Mavs could never beat Kobe and the Lakers even in the regular season, and sure as hell wouldn't be favored to beat them in the post-season - Mavs dominate the Lakers in the playoffs.

Oh yeah, this quote from Wade in 2007 describing why the Mavs lost in 2006:

"because [Dirk] wasn’t the leader he’s supposed to be in the closing moments. At the end of the day, you’re remembered for what you did at the end."

Who failed more in the clutch, Wade or Lebron? Who wasn't the leader they were supposed to be more?

I don't care, but I just love how it's come full circle and Dirk has been completely redeemed

Honestly, this is exactly why I wanted the Heat.

Beating the Heat, and avenging 2006 is gratifying.

Beating the Wade/LBJ/Bosh Heat is super-gratifying.

The storyline was perfect, and for Dirk and JET, it ended perfectly.

You couldn't ask for a better story line. I will always hate what happened in 2006, but for me I'm now officially 100% over it. This is the perfect closure and I couldn't be more happy for Dirk. He worked so hard and he deserved every bit of it.

As a long-time Mavs fan, I don't care what happens from here on out. The Heat can go win their 8 as far as I'm concerned. Dirk finally got one and 5 years later the Mavs came through with an upset of their own. I've been bitter the past 5 years as far as the NBA goes, but can finally get over that.

A couple more:

-Jason Kidd can't guard anybody and is useless on offense - hit some huge clutch shots and had some big defensive moments while guarding all of 6 of the top 9 players on the All-nba teams.

-Mavs got screwed by the refs in 2006 (according to whiny fans), including some specific series altering calls - in 2011 refs made some tough calls that went against Miami in clutch that if called differently could have swung the games. Not saying Miami was screwed by the refs, but they weren't bailed out by them.

IMO, the storyline of the Mavs 2011 NBA Championship run is one of the best in the history of the game. I know I am a Mavs fan and so maybe I am a little biased, but WOW, I am so happy for these guys, these old warriors, NBA Champions at last!!

The only time I complained about the officiating was after game 5. The Heat as a team shot 52 free throws to the 25 of the Mavs (Wade shot 26). In overtime, the Heat were down one and Wade committed a backcourt violation which wasn't called, and then the Mavs were called for a foul despite nobody being near Wade when he missed his shot, and he won the game with 2 free throws. That game it looked blatant, but other than that the Mavs just choked.

2007 Mavs were 1st team lose a 7 game series to an 8 seed - 2011 lol at San Antonio, but at least they lost to the "best team in the Western Conference"

2001-2010 Mavs couldn't Win. Game with Dan Crawford reffing - 2011 Mavs were 2-0 with Crawford

2001-2010 Mav had a mental block against the Lakers. They had like a 20 year losing streak in LA at one point - 2011 lol at Kobe and Mike Brown

2009 Dirk has his wheels shot off by his scamming fiancé (though it didn't affect his play) - 2011 Pau and Lebron allegedly had some issues with the women

Short answer is yes.

1. Won FIRST championship.
2. Did it against the team you last went up against in the Finals.
3. Questionable circumstances in last Finals loss, to say the least.
4. Major flameout the year after.
5. Again, off of no. 2, the team your matching up against is a better reincarnation of the previous match-up as well as possibly the most hated team in NBA history, if not sports history.
