Just heard this on The Herd....got busted in Irving on a PI..posted bail.

WTF is up with this guy.

He was walking through an apartment complex and someone reported seeing a drunk person. I'm thinking the Irving PD wanted a news story.

I have carted many a friend away from a police officer who have said "just take him home, thank you".

Irving arrests someone in the same fashion for being "too drunk".

Hell, I've been called by the po-po to pick up my brother-in-law who was too drunk to get himself home safely. Unless the guy is being belligerent, there are generally other options. All reports so far are that Stevenson wasn't belligerent, just drunk.

If he had anyone with him at the time then yes, that would be a good idea (to just have a friend take him home). Unfortunately for Stevenson, he was alone. The police did what they deemed best. They were at the scene and it was their decision.

You would be singing a different tune if they HADN'T arrested him and he got behind the wheel of a car and killed someone or himself. That's a fact. Heck, the police may have done him a favor.

If there had been someone with him or on the way to pick him up, the police are supposed to let that person take care of him. If he was alone, and, according to the report I read, didn't know where he was, they probably did the right thing. The police are not required to babysit while the drunk tries to figure out what to do.

Not enough information. I've seen cops be d-bags about arrest people that really didn't need to be. I've also seen drunks be dumb-asses and get arrested because they were being stupid and/or a danger.

I'm absolutely sure a guy who would wear a "How's my Dirk taste" t-shirt would fully cooperate with cops when drunk.
