I take it that means the end of Stevenson's run in Dallas.

Fernandez could probably start for Dallas next year. I like the trade.

I think we should keep Stevenson.

I liked what he brought to the team. Butler and Peja may be left off.

Peja is out for sure. I'd like to keep Stevenson.

I think Butler returns, honestly. That was a bad injury and I doubt he gets a big offer thrown at him. By all reports, Tuff Juice was much loved in the locker room as well.

Rudy is a good fit in dallas. Runs his mouth after every 3 made.

This is a good move for the mavs. Rich just got richer. However, his defense is nonexistent.

I watched Hamilton smoke the Ags twice this year, so I'm wondering why we don't stick with the guy with greater upside. Rudy doesn't do anything that Hamilton couldn't do, and Hamilton has more athleticism and is younger.

On the plus side, at least I won't have to root for a sip on the Mavs...

I don't really care for this move. I'd rather have what we've already got. Not sure how he fits on this team.

The lasting image I have of Rudy is him bricking every shot he took in the 1st round before being substituted out for a dude who is basically on crutches and still a better player.

I wouldn't judge by the cover, Rudy is actually really athletic. He was in the dunk contest a few years ago

As much as I hated Hamilton in Austin, I was happy he fell to Dallas at 26. I'm surprised they flipped him for Fernandez, and I think after a couple years of maturity/development, Hamiltion will be a very strong NBA scorer. I'm cautiously optimistic about Fernandez though.

They've been targeting Rudy for 2 years. Would have taken much more to get him in the past. Upside potential, and his contract expires this year.

Can slide right in to the starting 2 role when matchups allow it.

Deshawn and Peja are likely gone. Don't want to wait 2 years for Hamilton to develop.

Defense wins championships and if Stevenson goes we lose a lot on defense.

This is a very good pickup for the Mavs

Not saying Rudy is not athletic - just that Hamilton is more athletic. Hamilton uses his athleticism on defense more than Rudy and is only going to continue to develop. I don't hate Rudy's game - I just didn't like what I saw of him in the playoffs and think Hamilton has a ton of upside with a chip on his shoulder after sliding a bit in the draft.

I guess the effects of the championship run haven't worn off. If you asked me if I'd rather have RF or Deshawn/Peja I'd pick RF every time.

Stevenson was a pretty big part of what we were able to accomplish down the stretch. I've seen plenty of finesse Mavs teams to not want to lose a gritty/tough player, especially given the end result of last season.

I know that RF is a better player. I hope he integrates well with our team because he's certainly talented enough.

Let's play make believe and pretend that the CBA works out for the Mavs free agency this summer and we sign everyone save Peja. Is this our 2011-2012 starting lineup/bench?

C Tyson Chandler???
PF Dirk Nowitzki
SF Caron Butler???
SG Rudy Fernandez
PG Jason Kidd

Bench:
Jason Terry
Shawn Marion
J.J. Barea????
Brendan Haywood
Roddy B
Deshawn Stephenson???

Ian Mahinimi
Corey Brewer
Brian Cardinal

Not a bad lineup even though I dont think it's likely we are able to resign everybody even if their isnt a hard cap. Dallas also needs to get a better 4 man to back up Dirk.

I agree on something like that, but I don't think Rudy will come right in and start. JJ will start at the 2 guard unless they start butler at 2 and start marion at 3. I think Roddy B is going to eventually start at PG in front of Jason Kidd, but who knows whether that'll be next season. My hope is that these guys start entering next year's postseason or at least get the majority of the playing time.

Roddy Beaubois
Caron Butler
Shawn Marion/ Jason Terry
Dirk
Tyson Chandler

Coming off the Bench or lesser minutes (I put it like this b/c i could see Kidd starting no matter how good Beaubois does) in this order.

Jason Terry/ Shawn Marion
JJ Berea
Rudy Fernandez(sleeper)
Stephenson (if he's there)
Brendan Haywood
Corey Brewer

And I don't think you necessarily have to find a power forward to back up dirk. As long as you have a center in there who can guard the other team's best post player, then you don't have to have some dude that's 6' 10" to fill in for Dirk when he leaves.

Butler and Marion could both play that position for a small lineup along with Cardinal in slighter minutes. Their lack of height would only hurt them on defense at the 4 is if they have to guard someone like dirk. On offense things would actually be to Butler and Marion's advantage with their quickness.

He's a free agent next season so it frees up a lot of cap space for us to go after a superstar next offseason.

I get the feeling this is a parting kiss to Butler so we can throw all our money at Chandler and JJ. Don't mind it at all, really. Just hope we're able to resign them. Go for the repeat this year, and if you can't make it happen then the expiring contract should give you a little wiggle room to help retool around dirk and maybe give him another big time player which will help as he ages.

Didn't they get the rights to some other foreign guy in the trade too?

Bringing in Fernandez definitely means that Peja is probably gone.

DeShawn or Fernandez?

Give me Deshawn.

Excellent perimeter defenders that can knock down threes arent easy to come by.
