One 25-year-old highlight video from one game involving 7 or 8 good/great players won't change the belief that today's players are better athletes. Just my opinion.

I grew up watching NC State basketball. My dad and I got to watch the 1974 Final Four against UCLA and Marquette. We moved to Houston in 1977, so the 1983 game was special, since we got to watch our beloved Wolfpack against our newly adopted Cougars.

Though we had rooted for the Coogs throughout the tourney, there was no doubt who we wanted to win the Final. The 'Cardiac Pack' had survived impossible odds throughout, and they were, after all, dad's alma mater, and our childhood team.

As the game got closer, due to Guy Lewis inexplicably ordering a slowdown, I tensed up. We never really thought it might get this close. Suddenly, it was tied at 52, and State had the ball! I groaned as Derek Whittenburg nearly lost possession, then threw up a prayer. Out of nowhere, Big Zo jumped, grabbed the ball with both hands, and dunked it home, the 2nd Wolfpack dunk of the night (to Phi Slama Jama's one). Pandemonium ensued.

I never tire of watching that replay. More than anything, it represents why, every March, I can imagine the Aggies pulling off the championship. Because, that year, Big Zo proved you could.

RIP, Lorenzo. You'll never be forgotten.

Is anyone else waiting for that play to be re-created someday? If done properly it's the perfect trick play. The World Peace put back against Phoenix last year was similar, but again unintentional. I could see Jason Kidd/Shawn Marion pulling that off easily.

It's too bad he's dead. It's also too bad that a guy with that kind of educational opportunity and one of the greatest moments in college sports history ended up spending the last 10 years of his life as a bus driver.
