Dwight Howard went 21-39 last night. Wow!
Dirk would have gone 37-39

well, when you miss that many, of course they're going to keep fouling you

Not sure how many and-1's he had, but if a safe bet is that was 39 ft's on 18 fouled shots, then he got 21 points on 18 shots, if they had opted to not foul him, how many points does he get on those 18 shots? probably a bit more, but doesn't seem like the strategy paid off.

He had 45 points and 23 rebounds. Those 39 free throws were just a Free Rest!

i didn't watch the game, but assuming that's true, his FG% is around 59%, so on 18 shots, he'd generally score 21 points.

where it backfired is that he made 53.8% of his free throws last night, which is better than his season average of 45.9%

if you have a choice between letting him shoot 18 FGs at 59% or 36 FTs at 45.9%, which are you doing?

If he'd made all those freebies and then just got a 10 point effort otherwise he'd have scored 50!
