Rockets interested in Chris Kaman

According to SI, the Rockets are looking to go after Chris Kaman by offering some combination of their stockpile of 2009 lottery busts (Thabeet, Hill, Flynn, Williams) and maybe Patterson and/or Bud. If the deal only involves the '09 busts, then I think it's a steal. I believe Kaman would seriously upgrade the defense, which I think is our biggest problem at the moment. We'll see how Stern feels about it though...

that would certainly help us stay average

Jordan Hill is inconsistent, but he's not in the same league as the other 3 when it.comes to being a bust.

I'll go on record and say that before this season I was hoping the Rockets would go into "tank" mode. And I don't mean losing games on purpose; I mean basically rolling out a line-up with the '09 busts, giving them some serious playing time, and letting the chips fall where they may (i.e. most likely a top 5 pick).

After the recent run that the Rockets have made, I would say that we're pretty far away from a top 5 pick. I think that shifts the goal to 1) at least trying to see how far you can get this season, and 2) stay flexible for next summer (I believe Kaman is only on the books for this season so we would still have room to make moves this summer).

2 fringe benefits would be 1) this move may allow for Marcus Morris to come back to the big leagues so we can see if he's shown any improvement, and 2) we can mentally move on from the disaster that has been Thabeet, Flynn, and TWill.

I wonder why. I can't see anyone playing Captain Kaman and Big Sam at the same time.

The Rockets have the least exciting roster in the NBA.

The Toronto Raptors have something to say about that.

Check out this box score from the other night:

The Rockets wouldn't start a single player from that roster outside of Bargnani.

At least they have DeMar DeRozan's antics to watch. The closest thing we have to that kind of J.R.-Smith-that-was-incredible-but-did-he-even-know-what-the-play-diagram-was kind of player is Terrence Williams and he's always on the bench.

I think the Rockets are one of the more fun teams to watch.

They're not. With the exception of watching Chandler Parsons opting to run full speed to the rim for a putback opportunity instead of getting back on defense, they're even worse in person.

They run the floor, they move the ball well, they score effectively through ball-movement, isos and set plays rather than ISOs and individual heroics. With teams like Charlotte, Toronto, and New Jersey, I don't know how you can say we're the least exciting roster in the NBA.

I've shot a few Rockets games this year and I agree with Ninja - they aren't that exciting. They don't have a single exciting player on the team.

I was never someone calling the Spurs exciting, but Parker and Ginobili were both more exciting players than anyone on the Rockets.

What about a member of the national media?

The Rockets just aren't that enjoyable.

i disagree...

there were times last year when courtney lee and chase budginer were both on the court where they were plenty exciting.

and terrence williams is exciting, he's just not a very good player. it isn't worth playing an exciting guy if he doesn't make your team better.

the problem is that martin is your most reliable scorer and he's logging nearly 36 minutes a game. that means for 3/4 of the game, you're relying heavily on the most boring player in the game. and it isn't like scola is any more exciting.

a lineup with lowry, lee, and budinger would be far more exciting...and i'm not sure it wouldn't also be better.

basically, i want kevin martin gone

What makes tony parker more exciting a player than Kyle Lowry?

Spurs are actually middle of pack now in the age category. Mavs take the title for oldest team in the league.

But to the thread topic, I don't see why the Rockets would do this. Kaman is a nice offensive player, but having him and Scola at the front line would be very concerning defensively.

The rockets would do it because they only have one true center on the team and they have some spare parts they could ditch in the process.

Kaman would back up Dalembert

Parker is one of the best finishers around the basket this game has. He makes a lot of circus-like shots. And he's French. So he has that going for him.

Lowry is pretty good finishing in the paint. His eFG% from "Close" is 63%, Parker is 65%.

That his whole game revolves around his quickness, getting past his man and into the lane.

Lowry takes 25% of his shots from up close and is averaging 3.4 ppg from close. Parker takes 41% of his shots from up close and is averaging 7.4ppg from inside.

Just the eFG% doesn't really mean anything if you aren't shooting from there much.
HotardAg07

Yes, it tells you that they are both about the same at finishing inside.

I think Lowry is a more exciting player because he is a great rebounder and a better defender. It's all subjective on what is exciting. But to call us the least exciting is retarded. Can you name 3 players on the charlotte bobcats without using Google?

Augustin, Gerald Henderson, Kemba Walker, BISMACK ****ING BIYOMBO. All without Google. All more exciting than any Houston Rocket.

If watching Kyle Lowry play defense is what excites you, then I'm just going to exit the thread right now. Pointless argument.

Averaging 3ppg in the paint means you don't get there that much. That's great you finish a shot or two in the lane every game, but that doesn't make you a great finisher.

Seriously? Duncan was a great rebounder and defender and is one of the most boring super stars ever.

You think Lowry is exciting because he grabs some rebounds? GTFO

I'm probably the wrong person to go to with those kinds of challenges. Off the top of my head, DJ Augustin, Boris Diaw, Ty Thomas, Corey Maggettee, Kemba Walker, Diop off the top of my head.
mazag08

Just because he doesnt drive the lane much does not mean hes not a great finisher. The stat Hotard is talking about shows that they finish at about the same clip. Tony Parker drives more. Duh. Thats because Lowry spends most of his time setting up his teammates and knocking down jump shots.

The Rockets also had bigs last season too. Only problem was Thabeet didn't see the court much.

If he was a great finisher, he would be finishing more. He gets a couple shots in there a game and that is it.

Jump shots and rebounds aren't that exciting.

Agreed 100%. Honestly, anyone who doesn't agree with that is probably just fooling themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I watch just about every game they play. Not because they are exciting to watch, but because I have always been a Rockets fan and I will always watch them. But they have had way more exciting teams in the past compared to this team.

I also watch just about every Astros game too. I'm not sure why I do that though. Unless I have many drinks at my disposal, those games are just depressing.

Yeah Rockets are not that exciting I agree.... But good grief, Spurs without Ginobili is like watching paint dry.... Especially watching that idjit Bonner jack up those awkward looking 3's.... Looks like he's wearing an adult diaper when he runs around
