Should Dirk be an All Star?

I have mixed feelings. Certainly he's played below an All Star level this year, although he's picked it up the last two games. But it would just be kind of sad if the year after the Mavs championship run we had no All Stars. Also the All Star game is definitely a lifetime achievement award for a lot of people, just ask Tim Duncan or Shaq later in his career.

The thing that almost makes me not want him picked, is that he could probably use the rest.

Any thoughts?

I say no. He's missed a handful of games and wasn't in good form until the past couple of games. Aldridge and Love are a lot more deserving.

And for the record, Duncan shouldn't have been on that team last year. Just like Anthony shouldn't be on the team this year.

Neither him nor Duncan should be. Tough to admit.

The thing that Duncan had going for him last year was having the best record in the league at the time.

My main issue is it would suck for the Mavs to have no one on the squad a year after the Championship. I also feel like its stupid to have the coaches be from the team with the best record. I'd rather they use coaches from the Finals last year. That way Carlisle would be the coach at least.

Picking all stars after roughly 25 games is stupid, but that was one of the impacts of the lockout. Neither Duncan nor Nowitzki should be on the all star team.

I dont think he should be, but every year multiple players are put on the team because we all know they are good. Dirk shouldnt be the only player punished for being hurt to start the year.

Maybe he should just get some rest that weekend.

I'd be down for him spending some time with Holger that weekend.

Huge Mavs fan and Dirk homer, but he said himself that he didn't deserve it. Let the big man rest.

Maybe if he gets in, he'll have a "bad ankle" the week before and skip. I would bet on a few of those Pro Bowl style "injuries" this year.

He doesn't want to be. The rest over that weekend is key for him and the Mavs

Love, Griffin, Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Durant, Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap are all forwards that should go in before Dirk.

Dirk makes the team as the coaches picked 3 backup PFs and no SFs.

Dirk. Although he essentially made it on prestige and merit of last year's run.

I agree. I think he made it due to his performance in last years championship run. It's sad to see Duncan left out this year.

So the West put 1 SF and 1 SG on their roster?

2 C, 4 PF and 4 PG?

Glad Dirk made it! I'd say the person most snubbed as a result is Paul Milsap but that's just the way basketball go.

To me, you shouldn't be an all-star if you're on a sub-500 team. It really doesn't say much. Nash has no business being on the team. Jefferson and Milsap are more deserving.

I disagree (not necessarily about Nash in this case) but there can be good players on crappy teams.
Iowaggie

Here's the thing with Milsaps. He's arguably the 6th to 8th best PF in the West. The West is loaded with very good PFs.

Besides the 4 chosen ahead of him (Love, Griffin, Aldridge, Dirk), there is Pau. That is not including Zach Randolph (injured) or Duncan (aged).

There has to be a common sense provision. Milsaps probably does deserve it as much as Nash, but there should be more than 1 SF & 1 SG on the team.

Yikes forgot about Lowry. I think he should have gotten the nod over Nash as well.

Those of you who think the first part of this shortened regular season matter more than last year's postseason and a career need to take of your anti-Dirk glasses.

I thought it was the 2011-2012 all star game. If I'm not mistaken I think dirk already got some hardware for his post season run.
TheDino

Agreed. I don't have my anti dirk glasses on if I don't think he deserves the All Star selection this year.

He made it due to last year's run. That is bogus.
TheDino

This shortened regular season should matter more than a past career and playoff run in the All Star selections. That's the point of having an All Star game every year, to honor the players having the best seasons.

I know Dirk will eventually turn it around this season, but to pass over players who have out played him?

I like Dirk, but I can't remember the last time I've seen a superstar mail it in this hard after winning a ring before.

I'm not too sure he's mailed it in. Just struggled. But I have only seen him play a couple of games.
