saw on Yahoo page. I would say it's sad, but it's not, it's funny. What's even funnier is whenever these athletes say the are broke, there are always two white guys around the dude. One is the acct. the other is the attorney....both of whom are very well off, thanks to the dumb athlete.

One of my favorite players ever. So much fun to watch, despite being a knucklehead.

I wish these athletes had even a lick of common sense when it came to their millions.

Had an entourage of close to 50 people. 50 PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! How on earth do you expect to pay for that. Using an engineering company approach each person needs to bring in about $120,000 to break even. So taking into account those that do not earn fee such as administrative people at what not the staff that does bill has to bill like crazy. But back to having 50 people working for you and them needing to bring $120K/year to break even. That is $6 million. Now in an artcile I read about Terrell Owens these guys do not take that much home. You have agents, managers and the tax man you have to consider. That $154 million the article referenced was a contract amount. Iverson probably took home arounf $65 million of that. Throw in the posse and the child support andf all the other things that go with it, you run out of money fast.

Owes one jeweler $850,000. And that is just one. No telling how many people he owes. All the cars that deppreciate immediately after the you sign the forms. Several run ins with the law which cost you attorney fees. Plus the charitable stuff he did (the guy was very generous with his money).

The question is not why he went broke but rather why it took this long? And guess what Shaq? You are the next contestant on the Price is Wrong.

I feel bad for the young kids he's created.

Otherwise, I'm fine if he goes to Turkey or China and never comes back.

I don't see Shaq going broke. Plus, if he does, he can always turn to movies and/or his rap career.

I've been looking forward to a Kazaam 2 for a long, long time.

shaq has repeatedly said that he saves most of his money, which is why he's not broke. he mentioned it a couple times during his retirement speech. Most athletes don't go broke.

Plus he's got that new job at TNT. Maybe he can hire AI to fetch his dry cleaning.

Most athletes do go broke. Read the article. And someone that crashes a jet ski instead of taking the time to dock it will go broke. Just a matter of time. It will only take longer.

Family background has a lot to do with this kind of stuff.

Iverson's from the hood. Shaq's from a military family..

I still remember that one Hard Knocks season where someone was trying to advise Chad Johnson that investing his money was smart for the future.

He had the most confused look on his face...like a 10yr old would have trying to learn advanced nuclear physics. You could almost envision his 2 brain cells fighting each other.

I know for a while Shaq said he only spent his money from endorsements, and he was just saving his NBA money.

Shaq might not talk too good, but he's not retarded. He won't be going broke anytime soon.

Que?

Shaq has been marketing himself since day one. Iverson, not so much. Iverson was popular in the the poor neighborhoods because he didn't change his public persona, but that doesn't help pay the bills. Not a lot of money in the hood. That's why they have pawn shops and Cricket stores.

8 out of 10 do in the NFL.
How do you define "most".

Shaq has supposedly never touched a penny of his NBA income. Only his 'other' incomes. Shaq has nothing to worry about.

Iverson is a loser. Should have been in jail instead of playing basketball at Georgetown or the NBA. And he would have been if wasn't good at shooting a basketball. He's always been a dummy. Zero brains

If you think Iverson should have been in jail over the bowling alley incident you have a very demented world view

Iverson is the prototypical example of what happens when you give hundreds of millions of dollars to a dude who hasn't emotionally or intellectually really matured past the age of 16 or so.

False. The article said that an estimated (whose estimate?) 8 out of 10 NFL players are jobless, bankrupt, or divorced two years after retirement. Lots of divorced people aren't broke. Lots of retired people don't have jobs but have plenty of money.

Too many professional athletes go broke, but not anywhere close to "most" do.
