ESPN is now reporting that the Mavs are going to activate him and expect him to play in the coming games.

His butthurt over being traded from the Lakers has now surpassed the (suspect) butthurt of the Steve Francis/Cuttino Mobley break-up.

better question..... who was surprised by this?

mitch kupchak is a genius. dumping this guy saved the Lakers at between 25-35MM (9MM over the luxury tax plus another 9MM in TE)

Why do the Lakers suddenly care about cash flow? How does saving money in 2012 by dumping one of their best players for nothing help them win the title? If they don't use the TPE in a trade this month then its a failure. And even if they do make a trade then who says the TPE is significantly more valuable than Odoms pseudo-expiring contract?

Lol at laker fans excited about saving luxury tax money by dumping a key player. You're not the Bucks or the Kings

1. Future Death tax
2. upcoming FA moves and rebuilding post-kobe
3. new management
4a. the original trade was not made from a payroll standpoint. only the secondary trade as a result of Stern's block, which was genius because it led to....
4b. compatibility with team as a result(see: the entire point of this thread)

The only thing that surprises me on this is is how the Mavs are handling this. Maybe my inexperience in understanding NBA contracts, but this asshat needs to go. He's done nothing but whine from day 1 of the trade, and it's been public enough with his reality tv pet wife.

I'm not going to Monday morning quarterback like SB. I wish the Lakers still had him; he would help them out a lot. He was always inconsistent as hell but on those nights when he actually brought it, he was great.

That said, I'm glad to see throwing him away for a box of pizza doesn't look quite as stupid as it did at the outset. I just wish they'd use the damn trade exception to make the team better. That thing expires at the end of the year.

the lakers had the Sasha Vujacic TE to use as well, but they let that expire in Dec 2011 without being used

However, every single team led their TE expire in Dec 2011 as part of the new CBA

and for the record, i wish the original deal the lakers did went through. Given up Gasol for Chris Paul. Moving Odom was absolutely the correct move once he found out he was traded. dude is a basket case an as unprofessional as it comes.

i hope the lakers get Beasley for the TE /end irony/

Bob and Dan mentioned the D-League thing was a possibility. They also mentioned that this whole thing has probably been more of a "suspension" by the Mavs than a "giving him time off".

i would imagine that is correct.

the mavs got royally f'd here.

Add effed up as LO has been this season, I'm going to give him a half pass if his dad is about ready to die.
His track record isn't helping anything.

my how the mavs fans are singing a different tune from earlier this year.

Oh you mean earlier this year when every single Mavs fan had already turned against him? Dude hasn't played one good game all year. I really don't think our tune has changed from "why does this guy suck so bad?"

well im actually pretty mad at the attitude the mavs have had the whole season. The chip has gone to their heads. After every loss, its just "oh, we just need to jell come playoff time". How many teams have had bad regular seasons losing to teams they shouldnt lose repeatedly and done anything of significance in the playoffs.

Dirk started the season weak, then became the dirk we all knew, and in the last few games looks like he is hurt/hobbled.

Jason Kidd is now playing like he is 40

VC/Marion have been a surprise.

Roddy is up and down and unpredictable

Delonte has been our MVP and he is hurt now.

Haywood is haywood, the most unathletic, uncoordinated big man today. Just as bad as erica dampier.

Wright has shown flashes of strong play, but not enough PT. What happened to Sean Williams??

DOJO turns the ball over too much.

This team is not doing anything special in the playoffs. NO Offense when dirk is off, no team chemistry, no shut down defender like d-steve or tyson..

I thought that Odom would be a good addition to the Mavs. He seemed like a versatile addition.

Turns out he's a sissy with a head case. I hope he's embarrassed playing in the D-League. It's where he belongs right now.

the last time mavs brought in head cases, 2004? Toine/Doug Christie

2009 - Shawne Williams

Can anyone confirm that LO's agent is the same as D-Will's? I heard this as a reason the Mavs can't or won't just drop the hammer on him.

I think the major reason they acquired Odoms expiring contract was to do a favor for Odom/Williams' agent in the hopes that it helps them this summer. That's also the main reason why Cuban will continue to coddle and enable him. Whatever it takes to keep the agent happy, which will be passed along to DWill.

There are agents and teams out there that refuse to negotiate with the Cubes because they hate him so much. He's very polarizing within the league, shockingly.

and boom is going the dynamite

quote:
"Mark asks a fundamental question of anybody in our franchise: Are they in or are they not in?" Carlisle said. "Our fans want to know that Lamar's in. Our players want to know that Lamar's in. It's not about how many points he's scoring or rebounds; those things are a factor. Our fans, our players want to see the guy playing like his pants are on fire and we haven't seen that so far and that's got to change."

quote:
"Trust factor is always big," Kidd told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon after Friday morning's shootaround. "For that, he's going to have to earn it with a lot of the guys. But we all give second chances, third chances. For that, we just want him to be him and be comfortable and play."

quote:
"There is a personal issue here and we do not know the extent of it or the details of it," Carlisle said. "There is a fine line between compassion, which our owner is showing, and gross insensitivity."

"I'm disappointed," Carlisle continued, "with the way the whole thing's gone. We've worked hard with this kid. I'm a patient guy, Mark is a patient guy, Donnie is a patient guy, our team is a patent team, but patience has worn thin here
