What's up guys. New to this board but I've been lurking around lately to see if there is any good NBA conversation that goes on. Seems to be some passionate fans but also some trolling and/or ignorant fools.

What is the concensus over here? Who are the trolls and who is for real?... I can't tell sometimes!

If you disagree with their opinion, they are a troll. If you agree with their opinion, they are a passionate fan.

At least that's how it is normally perceived.

Simplebay is a troll. Everybody else has their moments, but is for the most part cool. Everybody is a giant homer.

It seems to me like the basketball other forum is exactly like when I was on campus at A&M. All these guys from the 3 Texas NBA cities are thrust together, plus a smattering of fans of other teams. It was a pretty big shock moving into the dorm with all these Rockets and Spurs and even a Lakers fan or two. It's a little worse because the Texas teams are all huge rivals, unlike say in baseball where to this day as a Rangers fan I root for the Astros.

Back when I went to school I could never talk smack though because the Mavs sucked. So I'm making up for it now with blatant homerism!

that's a good way of putting it. when i was a freshman at TLU, the Rockets were still playoff worthy but obviously on the way down. it was the beginning of the Spurs run, and that campus was overrun with SA kids. it was brutal

Spurs fans- Deny what we all know that they tanked a season to get Tim Duncan and S.A. is a pitiful one horse town.

Rocket fans- Wont admit that they would have zero championships if M J didn't have a gambling problem.

Mavs fans- Just happy we finally have a Larry and Dirk finally is recognized for being a great player and not a choker.

Would have been one hell of a Finals with the two best players in the league going against each other.

Bulls had no one to stop Dream other than Cartwright's elbows.

In 94, maybe. I don't remember thinking that Olajuwon was the best player in the league in 1995. One of you Rockets fans fill me in if I am miss remembering.

Technically David Robinson was the best player in the league in '95 because he was MVP that year. But when Hakeem and Robinson squared off in the playoffs Hakeem definitely outplayed him.

Nobody on the Bulls could stop Dream, and we had guys like Vernon Maxwell in '94 and Clyde in '95 who could at least slow MJ down and make him work for his points, much like Shane Battier when he would guard Kobe. MJ's Bulls didn't have a good record against Hakeem's Rockets, so I think we could have won our titles even if MJ was still in the league.

But of course, I am a die hard Rockets fan, so take it for what it's worth

well it was a lottery system back then, too, slapchop.

you could at least get it right and say something like "san antonio wouldn't have a basketball team without winning that lottery"

I don't want this to come across as me not liking Olajuwon. In fact, I'm a huge fan, but not a very knowledgeable Olajuwon fan.

That being said, when I'm thinking best players in the second year of Jordan's off year, I'm thinking Malone, Shaq, and Shawn Kemp. At least those guys are in the conversation with Robinson and Olajuwon. If memory serves, 95 was kind of Shaq's coming out party when he was svelte and dominating to the tune of like 30 and 12 a game.

I do remember Olajuwon dominating on defense, though.

And of course, he played through Robinson on the way to the finals as you mentioned, and he played through Shaq in the finals. So what the hell do i remember with the 15 year old brain with which I was watching the 1995 NBA season.

I think we can all agree that "The Dream" and "The Admiral" are among the best NBA nicknames ever, though.
