As a sidebar, Jabari Parker (mentioned at the top of the cover as the best HS prospect since Lebron James) is the son of Sonny Parker, a name some older ags will likely remember as he played at A&M. He's also a teammate of Kendrick Nunn, who was committed to A&M for about three minutes. They are just finishing their junior year of high school.

it's funny you mention this cover isn't about LBJ, and yet his name still made it onto the cover.

Here's the story. It's ridiculous how many wrong dates/time periods this writer uses. I guess I just notice as an avid fan though. So maybe it's just me.

I thought the same thing.

Duncan is starting to loosen up a bit in his later years. Used to be he would never even give that kind of interview. It's not that he is elitist he just is very private and doesn't want constant attention from strangers.

One thing that I would have liked for him to ask him is if Duncan wants to coach after he retires. I'm starting to wonder if Duncan may be Pop's long term replacement for the Spurs, clearly he is basically a player/coach already. I think it will be a tough call for TD if he wants to stay involved with the game he loves or he just wants to spend time with his family.

Believe it or not I think Duncan would actually be a fantastic TV analyst. He's incredibly smart and can speak to the details of play in the game as well as anyone. I have little doubt he could analyze plays better than half the coaches they have as analysts and he speaks very clearly and with a high degree of intelligence. He is also quite funny and would play off well. For instance I think he would be far more entertaining than Shaq on TNT with he and Eddie playing "straight man" to Kenny and Barkley going crazy. Duncan is really quick and biting with his wit and he can deadpan with the best of them, he also is famous for his practical jokes. He could also give Barkley unending crap about all his rings. It seems like most of the guys they get as the "4th wheel" on that show are trying to "out Barkley" Barkley and it doesn't really work. Anyway, he would be great for a few guest appearances sometime if they could make it work. Knowing Duncan though his biggest objection would be he wouldn't want to wear a suit.

I really can't see Duncan doing anything after retirement besides falling off of the face of the earth.

This, but it's too bad because he would be pretty good at broadcasting and probably coaching.

Didn't like the incorrect dates used by the author, but I do think the article properly summed up Duncan. He will go down in NBA as one of its best players. When he retires, I would imagine he'll fade away quietly into the shadows. As a diehard Spurs fan, I feel very fortunate and lucky to have that guy on "my" team.

He'll probably play the same role Robinson plays now - Spurs fan with great seats...

I think Duncan is gonna smoke pot, play video games and D&D and live the island life with his wife and kids.

Him and Dave will set next to eachother down near the court and be shown on the jumbotron chatting with Sean Elliot during timeouts...

This, though I guess he could do commentary during the playoffs or something. Work 6 weeks take 46 off. That'd be a bearable schedule.

When he retires I really hope he is not forgotten
If so, I will still be happy I witnessed one of the greatest players ever play for my favorite team
Timmy deserves better than that, he will coach I believe

Tim Duncan is an imp... and I love it! The story about how he rigged the paintball game with Danny Ferry is priceless!

While I would favor Tim staying on as a coach with the Spurs, I think he is someone who just enjoys his family too much to spend that much time away from them. And coaching would mean even more time away. I sense that he wants to be at the kids' recitals and soccer games and t-ball games and school plays and such.

Recall that he lost his mother as a teenager and he lost his dad within the first year or two of being a Spur. Life moments like that have a tendency to shape one's outlook on life. Who knows, maybe he and Pop will open up a wine shop somewhere!

TD is a family guy but he is also a basketball fanatic. He absolutely loves the game. I think he will have trouble not being associated with it completely, there is only so much Dungeons and Dragons any man can play.

guitar - is there anything to the weed talk with duncan?
I've heard people talk about that like it is common knowledge but have no idea where that would come from. Well except that TD is inexplicably good friends with Antonio Daniels. zing!

My guess is that people assume that because he's an extremely mellow dude from a Caribbean island who enjoys fantasy games.
